Do they really exist? (I know they do) But, are they available to civilians yet. I have been looking fo one and haven't been lucky yet.

Any information would be helpful. I hear the LEM trigger is the cats meow!!! Would like to hear from anyone that has shot one.

Many thanks,
JD

Yes,
The Law Enforcement Module is very nice. Sort of like the Para LPA. Very light and SMOOTH! All the features you like in a Glock i.e. no safety lever, synthetic frame with a better trigger. The reset is crisp and very short. Excellent. At the baracade at the 25 yrd line I shot 12 rounds, six of which went into the same hole! 3-4 inch group overall. A fluke, problably but I was VERY impressed. This pistol shoots. My first HK and now I know why people rave about them. The only complaint is the finish, the HE finish does not seem to be durable. Rust resistant it very well maybe, but NOT a durable finish. I have seen sales to the public although at a very high price $750-800. A buddy at INS told me they went to this pistol for their criminal investigators. Rumor has it DEA is suppost to transition/adopt as well. Good move IMO! :)

Supposedly, the LEM is available for civilians in USP40 (not compact) now. It was described as a hybrid DAO/SA. How does that work? Can the pistol be still used in "cocked & locked" fashion?

The original LEM guns were offered to HK law enforcement dealer for $490, including night sights. They stem from a deal gone bust for HK and they had about 600 guns to unload. Some dealer chose to convert the guns for civilian use by replacing the LE magazine. They were sold by "respectable" dealers for around $650.

Guess some dealer chose not to be respectable.

Carried one for a while and it was quite nice. Just never got use to the bulky feel and returned to a single stack gun.

I'm waiting for the release of the latest from HK, the P2000. It already has the LEM trigger, plus a choice of two/three other trigger variants. Initial reports I've read from another forum says the LEM's just so and so, but I'd like to be the judge of that...

The LEM does exist, but is hard to find. Personally, I wouldn't call it "the cats meow." I've put about 100 rounds through my friend's HK USPc LEM (he is an INS officer). It's ok. It's certainly a lot better than the USP DA trigger, but not as nice as the USP SA trigger. I was all excited to get mine converted to LEM if possible. But now that I've tried one, I'd rather get mine coverted to Variant 9 and get a trigger job done. YMMV.

Skorzeny:

No, it can't be used in cocked-and-locked fashion. There's no longer a safety/decocker lever on the gun. It's my understanding that cycling the slide brings the gun to a sort of half cock position. Pulling the trigger completes the cocking. So, it's sorta like a Glock, but with a DA second-strike capability.

The LEM trigger was only on the USP40 Compact. There are no LEM kits available at this time.

The USDOJ-INS contract was for 4000 units. The DOJ only acquired 3000 units. The rest was given to the LE Dealers and some even made it to civilian hands.

I have 3 of the USP40 Compact LEMs and I really like them. They're modified just little with a new trigger block spring to bring the weight down to 4.5 lbs on the pull. I've already swapped the barrel on one to make a .357 Sig. The reset distance for the sear is much shorter than the glock and once my wife shot it, she sold her Glock 23 and kept the USP40C-LEM.

The price I paid was $649 and that included 3 10-rd mags and factory night sights.

HK will not be introducing LEM kits any time soon. However, expect to see a Full-sized LEM pistol some time next year.

How could you possess a HK LEM gun in southern California, if it's not on the DOJ "approved list" for sale to civilians.

No Poop!

Never would think that they'd spend all that money for the DOJ cert test for so few guns released.

Moved from Cal 35 years ago and never looked back. Only know about the DOJ Cert list from what I've read and California residents trying to purchase guns every now and than and they get PO'ed when dealers say "no!".

I'm not going to argue with you on what the article states.

I'm going by what is available through distributors and LE Dealers at this time.

The only variant being sold with the LEM trigger is the USP 40 Compact - LEM. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be able to get the three that I own here in Kalifornia.

Check with Larry Wolff of L.A.W. Enforcement Sales or with Cal's Sporting Armory as to LEM availability. Cal's is also doing part swapping with USP 9 compact and USP .357 Sig compacts and making them with LEMs. But there is no fullsize LEM variant yet.

There is talk of a Full size variant LEM and of LEM kits to convert current USP's but those are still on the drawing board at this time.

hk_cqb is correct. Only thing available at this time is the USP .40 compact. Nothing else has come down the pipe. A year ago Hk announced that there would be a civilian .40 Expert too and we're still waiting.

It is also too late to get LEM guns (except what's already in the pipe). They are exclusively offered in law enforcement form and are now controlled by the HK LE cartel.

The way HK does business BITES!

HK is leaving the shooting public out in the cold.

I've come across only a few 45 Experts and 9 Experts. What's worse is that you can't use the Jet Funnel with it because the Post-ban mags are too short!

16 round .40SW expert mags are available to LEOs and Dealers only.

No need to argue with me. Just tell me that the article is wrong (which is what you obliquely stated). I am more likely to trust the experts and aficionados of this board than any magazine - even "The American Rifleman."

When American Rifleman first wrote about the HK SL8, they claimed that it was going to street for eight hundred bucks. :p

Good magazine, but sometimes they don't get their fact straight. Especially when it comes to HK. But then again, there is no way to pin down HK on anything. Never really know what they're going to do. :D

I have played with a buddies. Its just like anyother long triger dao it sucks. Its only good if you like revolvers and like long trigger pulls that weight aobut 8 to 10 pounds. But to each his own. Its much like firing a da revolver with a good trigger job. What would be nice is if HK would make their DA sa guns with a first shot da lie the lem.
