HK USP9F or G19

Greetings,
Have an opportunity to purchase a used USP9F for $490 out of state or a used Glock19 w/ 2 hicaps in state for $499. Currently have a USP45F and find it to be the most accurate pistol I can shoot. I live in NJ so these will not be carried, more for fun. I also have a Sig 226 and have heard that the USP9F compares to this gun well in size and accuracy. The G19, OTOH, would be nice since I don't have a midsize hicapicity pistol. What would you folks recommend.

If the USP is the only pistol you have, and all else is equal, go with the Glock. Glock parts are a heck of a lot easier to get than USP parts.

Of course, if you don't like Glocks, that's another story, but you didn't say that. Have you ever shot a G19? Have you ever shot more than 200 rounds at a sitting?

Also check www.gunbroker.com and www.gunsamerica.com . $499 will buy you a NEW G19 from out-of-state (albeit with reduced-capacity mags). FFL transfer fee plus shipping is just about a wash with in-state tax. Depends on how much you care about the full-caps, I guess.

I used to own a USP45, and I currently have a USP40 and Glock 19. The USP40 (and USP9) are smaller than the USP45 already. The USP40 is closer to the 19 in size, being maybe 1/4" taller and 1/2" longer, but the Glock is noticeably lighter. They hold the same # of rounds.

You can pick up brand new condition Pre-Ban 15 round USP9 mags for $60 - $65 each, while FML Glock 19 mags IN NEW CONDITION can go for close to $100. I prefer NFML's myself, which are usually more like $50 - $60.
But when you get to 10 round Post-ban mags... Glock mags are @$15 - $20 while HK's run $30 - $40.

I am personally happiest having both a USPf and a Glock 19. It is true that Glock parts proliferate the market like Ruger 10/22 parts, so it's fun to be able to buy all these little odds n ends for the Glock.

$490 for the USP is a little better than average price, and the 19 WITH HI-CAPS is about average. The Glock by itself should be in the $350 - $400 range depending on condition, while the mag cost is mentioned above.

But the grip angle on the two are so much different, you definitely need to handle and hopefully shoot a Glock before you buy to make sure you're gonna like it.
