HK USP9 Compact Questions

I have the opportunity to purchase a HK USP9 Compact. My question to those of you that have carried/are carrying this weapon is "What are the pros and cons to this particular pistol?". Also, the pistol was manufactured in 2001. What should I pay for it used, but in like new condition with very few (200+/-) rounds thru it? Your feedback is GREATLY appreciated!

Our diplomatic security and quick reaction police is using compacts without any kind of problem. Four of my buddies (civvie and LEO) have the USP9 Compact and they are delighted. Accuracy and reliability is exceptional.

However here are some cons,

- The full size USP mags are not OK for the compacts,
- Check out the decocker/safety arrangement, some people find it uncomfortable,
- A bad holster can pop out the magazine while carrying,

H&K compact.

Deputy, I have a Compact in 357sig, just bought it, going to range this afternoon for some tests.

If its like the full sized version of the usp, you will love it. I bought mine used, paid 590.00$ . Might have been to much, but i wanted another H&K and finding one in 357sig was tough.

Three of our city officers carry Compacts but in 40 caliber, no complaints from them. I would say go for it.

12-34hom.

I have a USPc 9mm. Excellent gun.

My only problem with it is that 13 round hi-cap mags are very hard to come by, and when you find them they are expensive. 12 round hi-cap .40 compact mags were never made. Granted that if you're a LEO, you won't have that problem.

Capacity-wise, going with the .40 gives up only one round. In the 9mm, you give up 3 rounds because they never made the .40 hi-caps. You may want to check out the .40.

While on the subject of capacity, the USPc 9mm holds 2 less rounds than the comparable Glock 19, and 3 less than the Walther P99. Both the Glock and the Walther are excellent guns, and you should check them out before you purchase.

Finally, I got a steal of a deal on my USPc 9mm. I paid 575 for the gun, NIB, with 3 10 round mags, a fobus holster, and a fobus double mag pouch.

I'm really beginning to feel like the USP9c's official cheerleader on this board. I had one for two years, carry it (almost) daily, and use it at action pistol.

I have 19,000+ rounds through it and have had no problems that could not be obviously tied to my reloads (primers not seated deeply enough, no powder, and trying to push non-jacketed rounds too quickly). I've never had a malfunction with factory ammo or with my reloads when I don't do one of the above.

The ability to safely carry cocked and locked and therefore not have to deal with a double-action first pull is great. I don't understand why all guns can't do this.

Accuracy is phenomenal. The more I shoot other people's guns and watch them shoot their own, the more I appreciate what I have.

The lack of standard capacity magazines is a disappointment.

Shooting lead or plated bullets can result in keyholing unless you back off on the velocity. Somewhere around 10% below the maximum powder charge will work very well.

I have three holsters for mine and when trying them on for size, I never noticed a problem with the holster hitting the magazine release. I did notice a lack of holsters which would list the USP9c as being compatable, but I soon found out that every holster that said it would fit the Glock 30 would also fit mine.

I'm thankful for the Glock because every time I see one I don't think my USP is quite so ugly. :p OUCH! Ooo! OUCH! HEY!!!

I paid close to $650 for mine, but I didn't quibble on price at the dealer because he was unbelievably helpful and generous while I was deciding, but $600 should be doable if it's new.

I did pick up the USP9c yesterday evening. It is truly a HIGH QUALITY weapon. I disassembled and assembled it several times last night to get familiar. It's a true piece of craftsmanship! I can't see where they overlooked any detail. I'll post after I get to the range on Saturday and let you know. If it shoots anyway near the way it's put together...I expect a LONG happy relationship with HK.:)

Florida Deputy,

I think you will be tickled with it. I have several H&Ks and I still haven't found anything I don't like about them. For me, they shoot more accurately than any of my other weapons (in my hands).

Enjoy. . .

:D
