Shopping for an HkUSP45. Wanted to know if there are any difference in the overall size of the gun esp the grips between the compact and full, besides the obvious slide/barrel length. Also difference in magazine capacities, performance, accuracy, recoil and overall feel of the weapon. Please post any range report comparisons for the two. How much should I expect to pay for the stainless ones? Is there any price difference b/ the c and f size? Thanks for all the help. Not for CCW or duty weapon. Which do you guys prefer?

Well the differance between the USP 45 fullsize and compact is dramatic. The compact fits me better in the grip area, still a little big to CCW daily but doable in a FIST Kydex IWB holster. The fullsize is a dream to shoot all day and mine is extremely accurate. I think I would find a rental range and try both of them. The fullsize is kind of thick through the grip, to me anyway. I have never tried to CCW w/the fullsize. I wish that both of mine the fullsize and compact 45's were stainless. From what I understand H&K has discontinued makeing Stainless 45's, you still see them occasionally though. Both are ball's on accurate and extremely reliable IMHO. If I had to pick only one it would be the compact, it just fits me better... Stay Safe

The compact is an 8-rounder vs. the standard UPS's 10-round mags. Magazines are not interchangeable between the two as GLOCKs are, but who cares? The grip is smaller on the Compacts.

Compacts are usually a little more than the standard USP in price. It depends on your area. Stainless models are more as well.

Depmur, you'll still be able to find Compacts in stainless steel. Only the full-sized models (all calibers) in stainless are being discontinued.

USPc v. USP 45

From what I've seen, the compacts tend to cost more. As for size differences...the compact has shorter barrel, thinner grip and have a mag capacity of only 8 rounds. If not for carry, the fullsize is the one to have...more accessories to boot ;)

Since it's for the range and for home only, you left out a couple of options. I think the Tactical or Expert may give you better results in these applications. Both are big pistols, but they feel the same as the 45F. They,of course, come with a corresponding increase in price. There are mant threads in these forums that compare and contrast the two as well.

RT - I have both. .45F in HE, .45C in SS.

My thoughts -

They are both as accurate as one another out to 25 yrds in slow fire drills.

Shooting from the holster for speed - the recoil of the C is greater and follow up shots are a bit tougher.

The bobbed hammer has yeild 3 light primer strikes in about 2,500 rounds. No other problems with the C ever. In short, I am thinking a standard hammer might be more reliable.

The C is a little lighter, a little smaller and holds 2 less per mag. (Assuming no high caps - 12 rnds)

I have the C for carry. It is ok as a carry gun - but it is big.

In the event of a true problem there is no question which of the two I would grab - full size.

If it is for what you have stated and you can handle the grip size - get the full size.

Also FWIW - the HE finish is great and I like it better than SS.

good luck

I purchased the HK for HD and open carry... guess when I shoot it, it becomes a "range gun" as well.

Both pistols in question fit me fine... I went with the full size for several reasons:

- pistol was NOT for concealed carry and I liked the standard hammer

- liked the double recoil springs better than the bushing

- liked the ability to build up to a Tactical (match trigger, threaded bbl, etc...) without having "Tactical" on the slide (job might move me to CA, could get ugly)

Either way, if you go with the one that fits you, you can't go wrong in the grand scheme of things...

I love them both

I have a stainless full and compact .45 USP. Both are completely reliable and accurate. I enjoy target shooting with the full size more, a little less recoil. I carry the compact.

Thanks for all your feeds. I am looking at the full size more also. Wish I can still find one in stainless though.
