HK usp40c question

Is the grip size smaller on the compact models compared to regular usp's or is the barrel just shorter? How about the grip size of the usp40c compared to the usp45c. thanks John

I believe the grips are smaller. The full sized 9mm USP holds 15 rounds in a full cap clip, while the USPc holds only 13. You can get extra length in the USPc grip with the mags with the fingertip extension. I assume the same holds true for the .40.

A smaller grip circumference is what made me buy the USPc .40 instead of the .45 version. IMO the USPc is a bit large for a 9mm.

Kermit....I noticed on the link you gave me that the width is 34mm for the compact vs 32mm for the reg. usp. Which part is wider on the compact? I guess I'm confused but if you guys say the grip circumference is smaller on the compacts it makes sense. thanks

Regarding the width, I think the reason the USPc is smaller than the USP is that the USPc uses metal mags which are narrower than the polymer mags of the USP. That's why the mags do not interchange.

The grip circumference on the USPc .40 is noticeably smaller than the grip on USPc .45. The USPc .45 is just a touch too big for my hands to comfortable use. The .40 is sized better for my hands. YMMV.

The answer to your question, and some you didn't ask:

While looking over all the HK choices, I compared many of them side by side.

The USPc has a noticeably slimmer grip than the USP. The grip of the USPc is about the same width as the slide, while the grip of the USPf is thicker than the slide.

The USPc 45 has a SLIGHTLY (barely noticeable to me) thicker grip than the USPc 40. I would close my eyes and pick one up, then the other, and couldn't tell a difference.

The USPf 45 is bigger than the USPf 9 & 40 to about the same extent that the USPf 40 is bigger than the USPc 40.

With the USPc extended baseplate, the USPc is about the same height as the USPf 40.
