HK USP vs Beretta 92FS in durability

I know that the HK USP has a 30,000 round service life. Also, The U.S. Military reliablilty testing shows an average of one MALFUNCTION every 30,000 rounds with their Berettas. Does it mean that the Beretta 92FS is more durable than the HK USP? Maybe polymer frames do not last as long as aluminum ones. Could somebody explain this?

There is a difference between durability and reliability. Polymer frames are much more durable than aluminum frames. Aluminum does crack eventually. I would think polymer might eventually crack as well, but will endure much more than an aluminum frame can. Both the Beretta and HK are great guns. My wife has the HK while I have the Beretta. Both are ultra reliable. I am a great fan of the Beretta 92/96 series. I carry one daily and they are accurate, reliable weapons. Unfortunately however, they do have their weaknesses, and I believe durability is one of them.
People get hung up on this when the average person might put 2-5k through a pistol in their lifetime. This comes into play for a serious service weapon however. The Beretta is good for 50-75K IMO. That's alot of rounds. In the real world alloy frames crack. Sigs crack. Colt lightweight commanders crack. Rugers crack. S&Ws crack. And yes, Berettas crack too. With enough pounding and improper recoil systems, steel frames crack (Colt Deltas). Glock 9mms have gone over 100k. I have never heard of a synthetic frame cracking however. Nothing lasts forever, so I assume eventually somthing would have to give. Maybe someone else might shed some light on synthetic frames cracking.
Otherwise, dont sweat it. The vast majority of people out there either cant afford or simply dont shoot enough for it to matter.

I think MP-5 nailed it. I've got an Elite II and a USP .45. I don't expect to ever have to replace the polymer frame of the USP, but I know that I will eventually have to replace the frame on the Beretta (I like to shoot, after all).

Doesn't bother me one bit. I love the Beretta and would buy another in a heartbeat if I had the spare change.

Come on,

The guy's posted the same question with slightly different wording around 10 times JUST ON THIS FORUM.

"THE QUESTION" has also appeared repeatedly on Assault Web, the Beretta Forum, and the Glock forum to name a few.

To top it off, he never responds to the replies...

I would go with the USP over the beretta because i have had between 45-50000 through my hk usp 45.

I have 20000 some odd rounds through my Glock22.

And i have had around 20000 also throught my Beretta 92.

The hk has had no misfires and no replacement parts so far i will have to look at my log to see the appx amount of shots throught the usp but i do believe its between 45 and 50000 rds .

The beretta has had around 10 misfires i think thats great for 20000 rds.

And the glock has had no misfires in around 20000.

Hopes this helps
