I just got a new usp tactical and im wondering if it's ok to dryfire it.i have 3 glocks that i dryfire all the time with no problems.will i damage anything by dryfiring the HK?i havent made it to the range to try it out yet but hopefully ill get to tomorrow.also throw in some of your opinions of the tactical good or bad.thanks in advance for your replies all will be greatly appreciated.

I asked this question about my USP45f... Word was, dont dry fire it with out a snap cap as it can ream out your firing pin hole or the stress can cause your firing pin to break.

Whatever, I thought.

Just to be safe I bought a snap cap and used it all the time. In short order there was a little divot in the end of the snap cap which I ignored.

200 dry fires later CRACK! SPROING! Parts came flying out of my gun!!!

Sure enough the firing pin had broken and although it was replaced free of charge, it did lower my confidence level of the USP's invulnerability.

I still use a snap cap, but if I break another firing pin I am going to ask for a spare. Still makes me a little nervous. I am sure that I could have had a firing pin with a flaw in it but I have heard other people mention that they too know someone that htis has happened to.

Good Luck!

I dryfire my USP40C all the time, and have had no problems. I believe it even says in the manual that it's OK to dryfire...

I dry fire occasionally on my compact usp.
But I mostly use a snap cap. Why take the risk.

As far as general opinions on the Tactical, I LOVE mine.
There have been a lot of people going back and forth about the dry-firing issue with USP's. There have been several people with broken firing pins attributed to dry-firing. I agree with the "why take the risk" mentality, so I use a snap-cap.

J.T.King's post above is the first I've heard of someone breaking a pin DESPITE using a snap-cap. Makes me wonder if there may have been an inherent flaw in that pin.

The average snap caps will develop a little divot in the brass primer, then the cap isn't catching the pin any longer. Get an Azoom cap from Dillon Precision. You have to buy them in sets of 5, but they last a hell of a lot longer than the other caps I've used. With 5 on hand, I can scatter them around the house and the range bag so there's always one handy to drop in and practice dry-fire with.

I pray to god that you are right. Actually, I want to love my USP so much that I have decided that is the case even though I have no idea. Since I am the second person I have heard of on these boards who has broken one it makes me a little nervous... but there are dozens that have never had it happen either....

I am going to dry fire it a good bit and then see what happens. If it seems rock solid after 1000 hits on a snap cap then I am going to forget it ever happened and chalk it up to why I have a lifetime warranty.
