HK USP Compact vs SIG P228?

As I had mentioned earlier, I am going to purchase a new gun. I was looking at the HK USP Compact 9mm, but my friend turned me on to the SIG P228. I know it will be easier to find the HK, but there are some qualities about the SIG that I like (such as pre ban mags). I have fired several hundred rounds through a SIG P225 (which I have been told is similar to the p228) and the HK USP compact. Both felt good in my hand and were accurate as far as I could tell. Can anyone help with a pros vs cons list of the two guns to help me make up my mind.

Bachman Pawn & Gun www.bachmangun.com has P228's advertised for I think $529. The P228 does have 13 round mags but they are expensive. You could use the 15 round P226 mags, they'll stick out the bottom a bit, but they're slightly cheaper. The P228 is a double-stack P225 basically, fine gun.

The USP 9 has a safety and option of condition 1 carry. They're both good guns and you can't go wrong with either. USP has a better finish, Sigs' standard finish is their one fault, could be better but it's usable. I say get the one you like the most.

The biggest differences are that the USP has a polymer frame (and is hence, lighter) and has a safety (depending on which variant you get). Otherwise, both are excellent guns, have exposed hammers and decockers, both hold 13+1 rounds with hi-cap clips, and will bring you years of service.

Regarding mags, you can get hi-caps for either, but they are expensive. If I had to guess, I'd say the USP mags might be more expensive by 10-20 bucks or something like that.

See which you like better, or flip a coin. You can't go wrong with either. My advice: if you're going to carry a lot, the safety and lighter weight of the USP may serve you better.

I've got a USPC .45, and my wife has a P228. Both are excellent guns. The P228 fits well in my hand, but it's heavy. I have not shot a USPC 9, and given the choice, I would go for a SIG. I wanted a compact .45, so I got the HK.

Both are excellent weapons; but I'd take your
friend's advice too, and go for the Sig P228.
They are getting even harder to find, in my area>
