HK USP Compact 45 Why more $ than 9mm & 40?

Why is the HK USP Compact in 45 more money than 9mm & 40? Seen prices locally for $599 for 40 and $699 for 45. Why a hundred bucks more? Baffled, John

WAG here, but it might have to do with the fact that while the 9mm, and .40 use the same frame (the USP was originally designed as a .40 gun), the .45 uses a slightly larger one.

Additionally, with the magazine caps, .45's are likely to be more popular than the .40's, and 9mm which are affected by the magazine ban, whereas the compact .45 is not.

Again, just a WAG here. But that would be my reasoning.

It seems like I read that there were several minor design improvements made to the .45 version - I'm sorry, but I don't remember what they were. This may, at least in part, justify the higher price. I sure wish they'd make a 10mm version with 10-round magazines based on the USP Compact .45.
