HK USP Compact .45, what's it shoot like?

i'm trying to decide if i want to get an HK .45...i'm leaning toward the compact.

i love shooting 1911 style .45's... so far the only 9mm i've liked is the Sig P226. having never shot the HK, i'm curious as to what it's like. for another point of reference, i can't stand shooting the Glock 17 (i know it's a 9mm, and i'm not talking about Glock in general...). i have problems with the slide not being heavy enough, and my wrists to flexy (i'm new to shooting handguns.).

anyone have any thoughts?

and is there anyone in the omaha, NE area that might have one i could meet up with and shoot?

thanks
matt

In my experience, the USPc .45's tend to 'flip' a bit more than other .45's, due to their slightly higher bore axis. Overall, though, they're excellent weapons, and I'm sure the flip is nothing practice and acclimation wouldn't overcome.

I have one in stainless and I like it a lot. As Aerrin45ACP noted, there seems to be a bit of muzzle-flip due to the fact that the USP45C is fairly light as .45's go. I also find mine to be a fairly 'soft' shooter because of the compound recoil spring and polymer frame. FWIW, mine has also been eminently reliable, eats everything I've fed it, and is more accurate than I am. It is a bit chunky as 'compacts' go, but overall, it's more concealable than a 'standard' sized autoloader and I think it's a good looking pistol.

I recently took mine to the range for the first time. Result? Very good accuracy, 100% reliability, some noticeable recoil, but very manageable.

I'd whole-heartedly recommend it. Mine will be my new carry gun.

I agree on the muzzle flip -- it's quite noticeably more than on my Kimber Compact. SA trigger is ok, but not great. Not as good as my Sig P239, and certainly nothing like a good 1911 trigger. DA trigger is horrendous. Accuracy is reasonable. I find my Kimber Compact easier to shoot quickly and accurately.

I find that the grip circumference of the .45 USPc is just a bit too big for my medium to large sized hands. The .40 USPc is better in that respect.

My USPcs have certainly been reliable, but not my favorites. YMMV.

Muzzle Flip

... is noticable, but given that it is a poly-framed compact weapon, it is within reason. I've shot mine well and it has functioned reliably without one failure.
