HK USP Compact 40 or Glock 30S ... which is best? Video review attached

Today, after a long day out in the cold, 24 degrees or so, moving out the remaining items in my house so the new renter can move in, I decided to stop at my gun club and shoot two of my compact big bore carry guns on the day to my new home. I shot my HK USP 40 compact and my Glock 30S, 45 ACP. It was difficult in deed with very cold hands and fingers that had the dexterity of a John Deer Tractor, which would have taken a smarter man into our lovely indoor range. I do not like shooting indoors very often, so as part of the training I shot outdoors right in the face of Jack Frost. Bad guys don’t stop assaulting folks due to the weather dropping into the cold zone, so we good guys have to train in all conditions, and I did.

When I say big bore I am talking 40 caliber and upwards. I am still a big bore fan, on human bad guys and dangerous game around the planet, old school if you. Bone smashing penetration has worked for me in some hairy scenarios, as things get hairy out there in the real world, unlike controlled shooting at a range, and shooting in controlled conditions; On the streets you Don’t get to choose when, where, how, or even the weather, you perform or you die.

What is your favorite big bore carry gun? If you are new or old and considering either of the two I shot today, which in my opinion is two of the best compact big bore pistols, you may like to view how they look when fired and more. I did, as usual to a video review. The two pistols are different but same in certain categories. They are high quality, reliable and both accurate. The setup and style of each may determine which may fit your style and experience.

Would you go HK USP Compact 40 or Glock 30S???

HK USP Compact 40 or Glock 30S ... which is best?

Hi WildBill, I don't post much, but saw this thread and wanted to reply. I don't carry, but for many years my USPc, in .45, was my nightstand pistol.I have many to choose from, but the USPc was the choice. I traded it a couple of years ago. Not because there was anything wrong with it, I just wanted what was on the other end of the deal, and I had something in the lineup that could do and be everything that USPc did and was, a Glock 30. I share your love of both, (haha and your dislike of shooting indoors), and I would not hesitate having to use either. They are both, indeed, fine pistols. I do shoot the G30 a little better though.

I do shoot the G30 a little better though.

What you shoot best is personal. I friend of mine likes the G30 better than the G30s because he thinks the thicker slide makes for less snap and muzzle control. Ones personal control style can determine that. Isn't it all fun?

Back in 2005 when I got my CCW permit I was carrying a Glock 27. I then moved up to a Glock 30. A few years ago I added a Crimson Trace laser to it. It shot very smooth but even without the laser it was very chunky. All 3 magazines were extended + 1 rounders so it helped with control having a place for my pinky. About 6 months ago I was at my local gun store. They had a used but never fired HK USP 40 compact with nite sights and 3 magazines with the LEM trigger and box. I was able to do a straight across trade. I don't regret it one bit. The HK fits my hands so much better than the Glock and I find myself starting to carry my compact HK's more and more. I feel that my HK'S just shoot better than my Glocks. I currently have the following: USP 40 full size, USP 40 compact, USP 45 compact Variant 1, and the new addition of the VP9.
For Glocks I have a 27 gen 3, 21 gen 3, 23 gen 4, and a 22 gen 4 in Dark Earth completely customized.
I would have to say if I had to choose between the HK USP 40 compact or the Glock 30. I would go with the HK. For me it just works better.

It's amazing how quickly your fingers can go from good to nearly useless in the cold, so I take my winter shooting seriously too. I like both your choices. Glocks & Hks do very well in the cold, simple controls, warm plastic.

My choice is a HK45C. I love the way HKs handle in the cold and I like a manual safety.

IME a good big bore auto is a better winter gun than a revolver.
