I added another HK to my collection.. MY Tactical was getting lonley being the only HK. Does anyone own the 9mm and how do they like it. If its anything like the Tactical I am sure I will like it..

:D

Thanks

I was drooling over a HK USP Compact in 9mm today, beautiful gun that fit my hand and pointed perfectly. Too bad they want $800 for it (banned in Peoples Republic of Mass.).

I shot my brother-in-law's USP 9mm full-size, and found it to be a very sweet shooter. The grip feels less "blocky" compared to my USP 45F. It has the least felt-recoil of any 9mm I've ever shot. I'd like to get the 9mm version someday, if I can get hicaps for it. Not likely here in People's Republik of Kalifornia unfortunately... all hicaps have been banned from sale (new and used, private and dealer sale) except to LEO types...

The only time I shot a USP 9mm, I only put about 15 rounds through it before it jammed (though to be fair, it was a rental gun, and the M92SF I was shooting before it jammed every other round). To be frank, I didn't like the USP, as the checkering on the grip tore up my hands and left them feeling raw and painful after only about 30-40 rounds.

I'm very happy with mine after 18,000 rounds through it and no mechanical failures (some problems with my reloads though).

It's still quite the tack driver. Careful aim will give me almost one hole at 25 yards.

If I were looking for a 9 knowing what I know today, I'd try to find a P7M13, but they're expensive, so a USP9c would be a my second choice.

I have the full size model, and I love it. Brand new gun, only 800 rounds so far...but it's been perfect. Very accurate, and I really like the trigger. Comfortable to hold, I really like the aggresive patterning on the front and backstrap.

Easy to clean, maintain, very accurate. I traded a Glock 21 in for mine, and it was more than worth it.

My next gun will most likely be the USP45 full size.

I like mine a lot. Very accurate compared to my G23, about on a par with my Kimber 1911. I keep the UTL II on it on the nightstand. I keep the thing cocked'n'locked at all times because the DA pull does suck. I would only use the DA if I was down to my last round and it needed a second primer strike.

No reliability problems at all, of course. I like how the mags insert cleanly, compared with my G23 which have to be slammed in to get them to catch when the slide is closed. I had no problems adjusting to using the trigger finger to release the mags.

My only problem with the USP has been getting a taller front night sight for it. The thing has been shooting about 5-6" high @25y. I ordered a taller front night sight for it. After a month the outfit I ordered from sent me a a standard front sight @ the height I ordered. I can't believe how hard it is to get parts for an HK. The hassle is unbelievable. I decided just to send off the front sight to Trijicon and have them put annsert in. $26 for the sight plus $85 to install the one tube.

While waiting for the new front sight I picked up a set of adjustable Mepros for $60 and got the thing shooting POA. I'd leave those on but the front sight is so high it won't fit in the Blade-Tech belt holster. It will fit in the Blade-Tech holster I have for the pistol +UTL, but that's not really appropriate for IDPA, etc.

At the price I paid for the USP at least they could offer some KY Jelly. Instead I get a fistful of sand.

Somebody add up what I paid to drop the POI 6" -- but don't tell me, I'm in denial.

All that said, I do still like the pistol. I'm picking up my P7M13 on Saturday. I'll use the USP when the P7 gets too hot. :)

To be frank, I didn't like the USP, as the checkering on the grip tore up my hands and left them feeling raw and painful after only about 30-40 rounds.

I still haven't figured out how the USP grips "tear up" people's hands. I sit at a desk job all day and don't have rough, calloused hands, and I can shoot a couple hundred rounds through each of my USPs without even thinking of torn up hands. They really aren't that rough, are they?

I've had a rather easy time getting parts from H&K (the few I've needed). I had a friend who had sight problems with a compact who sent it in to them. Had it back in a week, problem solved.

I've had very good success with their customer service.

Thanks for the reply's. Now I really cant wait to get it.. I do not find the grips bad either. They are the same that is on my Tactical and they work fine for me...

I don't have overly soft hands, in my opinion, but I don't have callouses either. I didn't have a problem with the M92 I was shooting, and I haven't had a problem with any other pistol I've fired (though I will admit it's not like I have vast experience with pistols), but the USP left my hands raw. Let's just say that I was very underwhelmed with my first experience with the USP9, and leave it at that.

Someone who claims to know such things said that they made the USP grips originally designed to be used with tactical gloves, and that's why they're so rough. Any truth to that?

I filed down the texture on the left side of the grip because it would rub me raw while carrying, but I never minded it while shooting.

The new USPs have a different checkering pattern.

I have had USP 9 SS for 3 years. I love it. High recommend one especially if you can get your hands on 15rd mag - I have two.

Pick up one of Kimber's early Custom Shop pistols with 20LPI "checkering." Now THAT's painful.

I really don't get what people are talking about with the grip checkering on the USP. Maybe you're gripping it too tightly. It's a 9mm -- it's not going anywhere so lighten up on the grip.

FYI - Talk to "Nigel" on HKPro (if the site ever goes back online...) about USP9 standard cap (15 round) mags. I believe he gets a steady supply of prebans, I am fairly sure he is based out of Australia. Nice guy, if I wasn't in California and facing a felony for getting 15-rounders from him, I would.

Foxy,

Not trying to come across as a jerk or anything, I have just heard that comment a lot and don't understand where it comes from. As I said before, I've never even noticed the rough grips while shooting. The only times I've evn thought about it are when reading a post about it here. I put a lot of rounds through my USP .40 which I know has more recoil than the 9mm and I have no problem.

As far as I know, the USP may have the most "aggresive" checkering on the grips of any pistol on the market, but in my opinion H&K didn't cross the line to the point that they are too agressive. YMMV.

Anyway, no big deal. In my opinion USPs are great guns.

Shake, I'm with you, but my hands are admittedly pretty rough.

I'm sure if I was sweaty, soaked by rain, or wearing gloves, that mean ol' checkering would be pretty comforting.

As for the rest of the time, like you said -- if it weren't for the gun forums I would never have even thought about it.

Dwestfall,

Are you sure? Well, that's good to know. Maybe I was confusing buying/trading prebans with having the LEO ONLY mags.

In any case, I could never use a preban defensively for legal reasons, and I'm not paying 60 per mag plus the risk of a misdemeanor just to have the extra rounds for the range.

Besides, I heard that the USP40 mag holds and feeds plenty of 9mm rounds very reliably and legally ;)
