HK USP .45 +P rated?

Packin,
If I'm not mistaken all HK USP's are rated for +P ammo and I think they are the only company that actually mention it in the manual...Pretty sweet !!

As far as I can tell they are +P+ rated. I belive I seen a quote somewhere from the H&K guys basicaly saying : "If it fits in the chamber you can shoot it".

Of course, I would call them and ask them directly about such things. TFL is a wonderful resource but doesnt cover your warranty :-)

"If it fits in the chamber...." is exactly right for the .45 Full Size - .45 Super is fine too.

.45C - no .45 Super, but +p and +p+ is fine

I own them both

Is the USP compact in .45 also suitable for use with +P loads or are we only talking about the full size USP's.

I can confirm that, since I use my .45 Expert with .45 Super. Works
very nicely, a hefty recoil (I tend to wear shooting gloves for
recoil absorption when shooting .45 Super), and pretty good precision.
In fact, that gun replaced my .44 Mag revolver as close-range
anti-boar gun.

I'm going to tell you a story and you take it as you will. Not long after the USP was first being offered in the .45 I started reading and thinking about the .45 Super. I didn't own a HK .45 but did have a .40 and the .45 was on my list of wants. I decided to call HK's stateside headquarters and see what they had to say. After being transfered a couple times I was hooked up with a guy (don't know his name or credentials) who told me they had been testing .45 Super ammo through a standard USP .45. With X number of rounds through it no accelerated wear or safety concerns were seen. He then said they were waiting for headquarters to give the green light to officially say they were rated for .45 Super. Was he just feeding me a line? Did something happen after my call to change their minds? Don't know. I never did get around to buying a USP .45 much less shoot .45 Super through it (I'm one of those Glock freaks). Just a story I thought I'd share.

Chris...

Not really, but sorta...

For us guys who handload our 45's, a +P+ is any round handloaded past .45 +P pressures but below 45super pressures. the +P+ loads are loaded in NEW standard 45+P brass (like remmington's nickle brass).

But these are max+ loads and should be treated as such. If you go talk about the specifics on the handloading board you will get lots of disclaimers such as, work up only in the gun you shoot it in, and work up carefully.

As to the HK USP45f, I own one and thats the one I load +P+ for. No ill effects and recoil is surprisingly light. An example of 45+P+ balistics: 45ACP 230gr FMJ @ 1050fps = 560+fpe

Winchester's online law enforcement catalog list the RA45SXTP as a 230 gr. Ranger SXT +P+ at 985 fps for 495 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

450SMC is Triton's replacement for the 45Super they used to produce before Ace Custom got greedy and all but killed the 45Super. The 450 SMC is actually a better cartridge, and YES the USP will eat it.
