HK USP .45 Mag Question

I own a full size .40 USP (which I love). Thinking about getting the full size .45 acp. I know that the full size 9mm and .40 have polymer magazines whereas the compacts all have metal magazines. Are the full size .45 mags metal or polymer? Also, it is my understanding that the .45 was introduced in 1995. Is it true that HK produced a limited number of 12 round magazines prior to the ban in 94? Thanks for the help.

Full size .45 mags are metal.

Oleg also says: "12-round mags not marked "for JBT use only" run about $100 from places like KY Imports. IMO, they are better than crippled ten-rounders because the mag bodies aren't scored or dimpled and there's no internal blocker which could bind the spring."

The existence of "pre-ban" high cap mags for the USP 45 depends on who you ask and you believe. I'm okay w/ the 10 rounders. I don't feel much of a handicap w/ 2 rounds missing.

I've got a USP45 made in '95) that I bought used in 1998. Just recently, one of the original mags broke (the welds on the back let go) I called HK, they gave me an RA#, I shipped in the bad mag and they are in the process of repairing/replacing it.

It's a great gun, with a company that offers great customer service.

And yes, the mag bodies are steel. I have never had ANY feeding issues with the 10 rounders.

The official word from HK is that the only 12 round mags they imported for the pistol were for a government contract. They say that any out there in civilian circles are stolen government property (For some reason, these have no government property marks.)

My personal opinion is that these are being smuggled in. However, I also feel that no markings is an affirmative defense from prosecution, but it doesn't prevent the magazine from being confiscated as contraband.

HK just doing the CYA ...

don't think your technically-legal, unmarked 12-rounders are high priority since the ragheads are trying to score the big one.

On a related note,

Another thread here, in another forum, mentions increased government surveilance of the 'net.

YET, KY Imports, etc. still seem to be selling these items and have been for the last few years.

I'd suppose that nothing could be proven by the BATmen, et al., or they'd have made a well publicized indictment already.
