HK USP 40 mags in 9mm gun; don't work as the rumer is that they do.

I have a USP 9mm and recently acquire a USP40. In the past I see posted that the USP 40 regulated 10 rd mag will work in the USP 9 and can have the capacity of 12 rds. True, you can put twelve rounds of 9mm in the 40 mag and yes it can be loaded in the USP9 and load. The reliability factor is not there. When compared to the 9mm mag, the mag lips are marginally larger, yet it will still hold the 9mm round. It's actually a hit or miss. Sometimes you can fire all 12 rds with out a mishap, other times it will in fact jamm. So, just an analysis, my findings are for a clarification of a myth.

Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about that little tid-bit.

Upon first hearing about the 9/40 interchangeability, I was very skeptical. I just don't believe in swapping parts that were specifically designed for a certain caliber platform.

NRA? Good. Now joing the GOA!

This would prob be considered manufacturing
a high-cap mag, and therefore illegal, but.

How about swapping the internals of the .40 *&* magazine ( follow, floor plate, spring, etc ) and putting them in the 9mm magazine shell. Or some variation thereof. Besides the lip, are there any internal differences between the two mags?

Sorry for the late reply,
Hawkgt, actually the way the mags are configured, they use two entirely different system of locking the floorplate; therefore not interchangable. By the way, the analysis of the mags enterchange, I shot 500rds and experienced 3 jams; this was due to the cartridge getting caught on the feed ramp. The only way, I think you can fix this is smooth out the sides of the ramp, still I don't think it's worth the modification to the gun, since I have both. Take care!
