I read the information on HKPRO's website with great interest. Does anyone know if this will be available to Americans? Does anyone know more about this weapon than what is on HKPRO's site?
From what I know, the PDW means "Personal Defense Weapon" and is a 9mm submachine gun. I think it is available to LEO and Military, and maybe those lucky folks woth a Class 3 license. Try looking around in the Full Auto forum.
This weapon is not designed with release to the peasants in mind, if you ever have a justifiable need for an ugly little gun that shoots some armor piercing mouse cartridge you may want to employ the Oleg Volk manuever by using one of your "sporting" :barf: firearms to obtain one from your nearest self-propelled armory.
Its a seriously nifty little unit. Stock and foregrip let you get a firm firing position... the cute little red dot even lets you shoot it rather accurately... Hits harder than a P90 and almost as hard as a .223. To do that you can bet its a HIGH PRESSURE little bugger and that means you will want your ear-muffs on before you pull the trigger.
All that in a package about the same size as a Desert Eagle.
Glorious!
Now, if we could get one thats SEMI AUTO ONLY with a 10 round magazine so us Americans can buy it...
There were 2 PDW's, the new one, which is designed to compete with the P90, and the old one, which is a cut down MP5. One fires the small caliber body armor beating round (the new one) the other fires the good ol' 9mm.
I'm not familiar with the new PDW; but the old H&K PDW was nothing more than an MP5K wearing a Choate folding stock that let you stick your thumb through the stock and use it as a foregrip when collapsed.
I was lucky enough to run into a Class III dealer at the range who had a full auto HK MP5, a full auto M16 Department of Energy edition (a cut down M16 which he said the DOE uses to guard nuclear power plants), and an HK PDW (the old one).
He let me run a clip through the PDW, with the silencer, on full auto. I highly recommend that everyone try to fire one of these at least once. I was giggling to myself for about an hour.
Like the FN P90, and other guns firing this sort of cartridge, it will very, very likely not be available to civilians in the United States. These guns use bullets specifically designed to penetrate body armor. Which is an idea significantly older than the CA gun battle where the baddies were wearing body armor. Dating back to the 70's.
