HK P9S: Opinions Wanted

Hello. I've shot HK P9s in 9mm and .45ACP. It's been years so my memory is somewhat dim.
I do recall that these were exceptionally accurate pistols that also allowed for discreet condition one carry should one desire such. The forty-five would not chamber rounds with ogives much different than ball due to the lands and grooves coming closer to the chamber than most 1911s. Best.

For some reason the P9S has a special appeal for me. Maybe it's the rather unusual roller-locking system, interesting mechanism, and unusual overall appearance. More likely it's a combination of comfortable grip, reliability, and (being an HK) quality.

Anyway, it's definitely not a pistol for everyone. But I personally would seriously consider buying any P9S in mint condition, whether the 9mm or the .45, or the fixed or the adjustable sight model.

The P9S is one of the most accurate handguns, be it 9mm or .45. They're aren't nearly as common as they once were, but are definately worth owning.

The 9mm I had experience with was a little temperamental about feeding. It pretty much was ball and Remington hollowpoints only. The .45s I've owned worked well with ball and HPs, but the short magazines don't get along well with the H&G style SWC. More than three in the mag would hangup.

I have the P9S Target in .45 ACP. I am not wild about the shark fin front sight, but that is the only thing that I don't like about the pistol. One of the best out of the box trigger pulls of any pistol, it is every bit as good as my SIG P210. Quite possibly the best .45 ever made. They can be expensive, especially if they have the box and paper, and magazines are getting hard to find. I sent mine back to H&K after I bought it for any upgrades and to check it out, they included a free owners manual when they returned it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. This is a pristine combat model in .45 caliber with box and all papers plus 3 factory mags. I bit the bullet and bought it for $500.

Shot it today and it was impressive. I didn't use any of my reloads but used Fiocchi 230 grain ball for a baseline.

Even with this ammo I was putting each mag of 7 into a nice one inch hole at 50 feet off bags. Ended up shooting 100 rounds through it.

Wonderful trigger and I must say is one of the finest out of the box pistols I have had the pleasure of owning.

Recoil was minimal.

The only complaint I have is that it throws the brass up to 30 feet away. It would probably help to get a heavier recoil spring I guess.

Now to find the ultimate load for it!

Actually, it's roller delayed blowback. The barrel doesn't move.

Regardless, that's good accuracy and pretty typical of the P9S. Mine will shoot with my Baer .45, though the trigger isn't that good.

Enjoy the HK. It's a very good pistol.

Slickpuppy,
A P9S in the condition you mentioned would cost you $900 to $1250 in my area. Around here, that wouldn't have been too much of a bullet to bite. You did damn good. Congrats.
:)

GOOD PRICE!!! In that condition should have been in the $700-$800 range and the extra mag is a plus so is the fact that it is a .45 version. If it has an adj sight and a trigger stop it is the Target version and is worth $900-$1200.

I am pretty happy with the deal and the pistol. It qualifies as one of the better purchases of firearms I've made over the years. Makes up for some of the less informed ones I have made.

Thanks for the help guys. It is mucho appreciated. I didn't think I could go wrong with the P9S and darned glad I bought it.
