HK P7M8 - Is the rear sight riveted?

Hello All,
I picked up a P7M8 a few weeks ago and it is shooting a bit to the left. I was going to take the sight pusher to it but thought I would ask if any of you know whether or not the rear sight is riveted in place like they did to the P9S models.

No it never has been. I have heard that some have a set screw. If you don't see such a screw, below or above, then relax and tap it.

FYI I own 4 P7s, none of which has a rivet or set screw. I have replaced sites on 3 of them, and adjusted the sites as well.

Also, have you confirmed that it isn't you. A lot of people (right handed shooters) naturally fire with the joint of their trigger finger on the side of the trigger. This exerts both backwards and leftwards force on the trigger.

That said, the front site on my P7K3 .22 conversion kit was decidedly off, because it was pinned in, and the damn pin was offset.

It Could Be Me!

Thanks for the info PV. I have been shooting it for about a month and am really having difficulty getting this gun down as far as accuracy is concerned. Before I started to mess with the sights I wanted to make sure it wasn't something I was doing.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but I am a pretty good shot so it is a bit frustrating.

I did not see a set screw of any type. I put 100 rounds through it this morning and when I strip it I will examine the underside closer.

I have not been using my reloads yet with this gun because I wanted to insure it can reliably handle a variety of factory ammo. That said, I am currently working through my 124 grain Winchester NATO ammo with the P7M8. It is flinging the brass over 20 feet so I ordered some heavier recoil springs from Wolff. I should have those this week.

I saw that you have installed other sights on yours. What did you end up installing?

Thanks again.

On my P7M8 there's a screw for the rear sight and the front sight has a roll pin through it.

I shot low and left when I switched to the P7, it takes a while to get use to the trigger. Try shooting off a rest or sandbag to verify the gun's poi.

My flings the brass into the next county. At 130pf, it's about 15-20 feet. My steel loads, 120 pf, it's only about 10 feet.

MMC makes a good adjustable sight for the P7, I use MMC sights on my USP and P7.

Well, My front sight is simply dovetailed and I can't see anything under the slide

So, I assume this thing has no set screw in the rear. Looks like I would have major disassembly on the rear portion of the slide to verify underneath though.

This is one of the refurbs and is an early 90s gun.

As for shooting off bags, I always do when I break in a new gun.

Any thoughts or advice?

Also, let me hear from others with different sight installations.

I have tried MMC adjustables on some Glocks. Great sight picture but a really weak design as far as adjustment controls are concerned.

Thanks

You really only need to adjust the sights once or twice. MMC are capable of snag free carry. Other target sights aren't.

I've got MMC adjustables on all four of my P7's, they have improved my shooting, really.

Do yourself a favor, never ever shoot lead bullets or even plated bullets in the P7. Oh and RemScrubber is way better than Gunscrubber for the internals. Oh, oh, oh and use only dry film lube on the gas areas.

I stripped the gun and there are no screws that I can see. I removed the firing pin assembly and then removed the slide and looked around the area where the dovetail was and saw nothing at all.

As for reloads, I was planning on plated bullets with light charges. I don't see a problem with that as long as they aren't hot loads, considering the rifling design of the bore. Hot loads will get regular jacketed bullets.

Cleaning always finds IOSSO bore cleaner in the barrel...it is simply the best for all fouling and I have tried them all.

Lubrication consists of MolySlide on the slide rails, barrel exterior and where the barrel fits in the slide.

As for MMC sights - are you guys using the fixed or adjustable models in general?

Thanks for the feedback

I thinks it's a VERY safe assumption, that when we talk about MMC's we mean adjustable rear sights. You may find, even with light loads, lead plugging the hole on the gas system with EVEN plated bullets.

I cannot say enough, the P7 IS NOT a Sig, or a Beretta, or any other non-gas gun, don't shoot lead or plated lead through a P7. This is the drawback to what is otherwise the worlds most reliable 9mm.

Ehornad,
As mentioned previously, I have had MMC on Glocks so am familiar with their adjustables...just assumed they had fixed as well since most of the sight manufacturers do.

As for the advice on plated bullets...my bad. I forgot it isn't a Glock with just wild rifling to worry about. The gas system is a weakness in the design(for reasonably priced bullet selection) and I thank you for reminding me of that for reloads.

MANY THANKS AMIGO!!!
