Well I got over my lust for the Walther P88. It just did'nt feel right in my hands. Now I think I want a P7 but which one? p7m8? or the PSP? Help!

PSP! it feels better in the hand and doesn't have the mag release that gets in the way or ejects the mag when you un-holster it.

I love mine, but it does get hot quick. Make sure you bring another gun to the range to shoot while it cools off.

Get what's cheaper. I happen to prefer the M8. Any carping about the mag release is simply sour grapes. It's not a problem at all, even on the stout M13.

Its not "sour grapes" its the facts! The PSP is the superior design, The M8 is a great gun but the mag release is a goofy, messy design. Get what's cheap and that's what you will get. Get the PSP its the one the M8 strives to be.

Let's get the facts straight.

The PSP is the original P7.

Everything else is a derivative.

The PSP is not only thinner and lighter but shorter in length and in height with no mag releases to catch on your body or holster.

People always talk about that darn ambidexterous mag relase on the M8 like it fixes their tactically bad moves.

If you have to shoot through a whole mag, you've really MUCKED up! Most shootings only involve 2-3 shots being fired from any one gun.

The only problem with the PSP choice is you've got to snap up mags for the PSP when you find them. I just bought three more mags off of an HK dealer in Mass for $25 each used.

I had a German police trade-in P7M8. Liked it for IPSC and plates tournaments but sold it. Kind of funny that for a while I was grabbing at the mag floorplate for the heel release on the M8. I guess my natural instinct preferred the heel release.

Kept my PSP though for CCW duty.

For CCW, the PSP is as good as it gets.

This is a myth. There is practically no difference between the P7 and the M-series derivitive. If anything, the M-series has the advantage of a no-tool firing pin takedown. Which is to say, very little advantage. Functionally they are equivalent, and the mag catch location isn't a factor in how the pistol performs.

They are different if you hold both of them you can see and feel the differences. I had my heart set on an M8 but found a great deal on a P7. After the purchase I compared the P7 to the M8 side by side and P7 fits the hand better and I'm very happy with the decision I made.

There is an operational difference.

It public knowledge among P7 enthusiasts that the flanges of the M8 mag release have caused some people problems when drawing and returning to holster.

The mag relase caught on their holster or belt or somehting else and dumped the magazine.

There's about as much chance of this happening as there is with any push button release. I've had P7s for over ten years now and have never had a mag drop accidently. I rank this story with the shaggy Corvette stories-- i.e. I found a pristine '67 L88 in sitting in a barn owned by a widow, etc., etc.
