HK G41

I keep thinking about the G41. What a great idea it was.
Perfect update for the roller-locked rifle.
Uses US/NATO GI magazines, weighs less than earlier designs.

I wonder why no one adopted it.

$$$

Because although the G41 was superior to the M16 in almost every way (having fired the M16, but not the G41), that quality comes with a price. You could generally buy two basic M16s for the price of one new G41. And those M16s would be even cheaper if you bought surplus A1's instead of the heavier A2 with its silly three round burst.

With the "Cold War" over I don't think any major government is going to spend big bucks to adopt a totally new rifle any time soon.

Done some fact-finding.

It does look like the price-tag killed it's popularity.
Then the G36 was developed and the 41 was no more.

I wish it had turned out differantly. It would be a damn good rifle for the DOD. Much better than the M16A9, or whatever version their fielding now.
