After checking out my favorite desk reference "Military Small ARms of the 20th century" by Ian Hogg I notiiced HKs G41 rifle which accepted NATO standard (m-16) magazines
http://www.hkpro.com/g41.htm says that there are, at most, 3 pre-1986 dealer samples in the US. All are NFA items and cost should be around $10,000. Nice rifle though.
Well thanks to the 1994 ban silliness I guess that nice rifle is out of reach for civilians. Oh well.
The AR is still a nice rifle in 5.56 NATO
Did any of the CETME models L and LC ever come in? It is a very similar rifle. It is refreshing to see some of the Cetme model 58s coming in in 7.62 NATO (although I still feel the FAL is a superior weapon) but it is nice to have different options.
I couldn't say, with any certainty, about the CETME L/LC. You could ask the same question over at www.sturmgewehr.com . The board administrator/owner, Buddy Hinton, is a pretty good source for HK, Valmet, Galil, and any other foreign military rifles that have been available in the US.
