HK-91 mags

I just bought two early 60's original steel German HK-91/G3 mags on ebay for $61.00 out the door!

I just felt like bragging a little. ;)

Sorry to give you the bad news, but AIM surplus is selling HK steel mags for $10.00 each. I bought 3 and the dates on them range from 11/61-11/62. All of them are in excellent condition with the original finish and are stamped G3 HK.

hkg3...email the next time before you buy....sorry to say scottsw1 is correct..hk91 mags are on surplus everywhere for 9.95...I would try to get out of the ebay purchase on the grounds the seller blatenly commited fraud IMHO...

I avoid ebay like the plague, a buddy of mine found the mags and emailed me a link.

Do you have a link to the places selling the HK mags for $10.00?
Are you sure they are real HK; the prices I've seen have been from $50 - $70 each.

That would be cool getting real HK for only $10.00, that's the same price as FAL mags.

aim surplus has them for 9.95..some may be rheinmetall and some are even NIW for 9.95...the floorplates are a little different..but these are excellent mags and they are HK marked and date coded...I have bought 7 of these..all of mine came from aim and they are all new.....with them being only 9.95 i plan on having them all teflon coated

HK1,

Have you tried them for function?
Are the followers polished?

I still haven't sent my moneyorder to the seller from ebay.

Hk mags are at an all time low right now. I think they're even less expensive than in the early 80's.

Check out Tapco, InterOrdnance, Federal Arms, and a few others in the Shotgun News.

I've found Ebay to be a great source for inexpensive stuff. You must have the discipline to avoid bidding above your original intentions. This often takes patience, but I've saved around $500 over buying similar stuff from a shop (not necessarily talking about gun related items here).

i wish, i have to go out of kommiefornia to get hicaps, but god forbid i do that. back before the ban on mags over 10 rounds i grabbed 2 thermold g3 mags...they were $45 each, and it was on the last day of the year, the day before the ban.

You'll have to forgive my skepticism; I've never known a true original HK magazine to be so cheap.

If these ARE real German made HK magazines then I will soon be homeless because...I'm gonna' B spendin' all my money on "fine German craftsmanship."

I normally wouldn't ask so many questions, I would just buy one and see for myself, hell I could literally tell if it was real or not with my eyes closed. The problem is, I live in the Great State of Kalifornia, which means I either send them to my in-laws in Washington State, or a buddies in Arizona. That means, the next time I get out there is when I get a look see and at that time the low price phenomenon could be over. Now, my father-in-law is ex-USMC, knows a lot about guns, but knows squat about HK; infact he can't even remember the name of my HK-91 "What is it an HK.......89.......or is it.........92!?" God forbid I ever move out of state and buy a G3, now I have two guns that look identical but one is a 91 and the other is "a......G......4!?" My buddy in Arizona is a gun freak like me, but knows squat about HK. There are only two people I know that I would trust to accurately tell me if these are real and they both live within ten miles of me. So you can see my dilemma.

Thank you all for the input.

Here are a couple of pictures of the mags I bought. They function just fine in my Cetme. Another alternative are the Cetme mags that Century and Tapco are selling and I've heard that they are brand new.

Thank goodness I didn't sent that money order, I made it out to my wife and deposited it in my bank. Instead we ordered five from AIM Surplus. Thank you all for your help. :)

I bought 10 from Aimsurplus. 4 were still in the original unopend package. 3 were alloy mags, 7 were steel mags. I think all the steel mags out of their wrapper were pretty scratched up, but no dents. They are all HK, and I have function tested them all with no failures of any kind. If you buy 10 or more, they are $8 each. That's the best deal. You might also check out Tapco...I believe they had a similar deal.

Stupid question

Here's a stupid question from a non-rifle guy (i.e., me :)), how many rounds do these magazines hold? Are they 20 rounders, 30 rounders?

Joe Mamma

20.

It is rare to find a 30 round magazine for a .308; and if you do it's probably an aftermarket. Which means reliability becomes questionable. Same holds true for an aftermarket 20. That’s why I spent so much time and effort trying to confirm that these HK mags were real HK.

If your talking about a .223 like a Mini-14 or AR-15, 30 round mags are the most common. Again, the real McCoy is the way to go.
