Who can actually provide a cogent reason for a) posting that sort of thread in the first place and b) flocking to it and voting, let alone using silly browser tricks to artificially pump the poll for some vague feeling of accomplishment?

It's almost embarrassing to read those posts when they come up, both for the reason and the inevitable style they are written in. Seriously- what's the point? When I run polls on sites, I like being able to see what my normal readership is thinking, and not having to spend an ungodly amount of hours fixing damage from freeper types.

I'm talking about the general "here's a website with a poll on gun control / politics / illegal immigration- go skew the vote hurry!" type of post. It wasn't immediately obvious?

No, but I've only been up for a few hours and Bud is usually smarter than me so if he was confused I knew I had no hope lol. :D

I see your point now though. I'm assuming the poll is maybe a way for the poster to fuel their ego or later on have fake data to pass off as true?
Just like the antis!

I don't watch ABC or CNN. Why should I care about a poll on their website? It's not like the data from it will ever be used in an argument or debate.

Heist, I`m new to this forum and in most of the threads you posted in, you are against on what we say. You have over 600 posts on this forum. I can`t figure out why you are here if what we say is against your beliefs. Maybe I have not read enough of your posts.
On the other hand, I remember there was a phone poll that the Brady Campain had. It was an 800 number that callers would dial to put in their vote on some anti-gun issue. Well, a lot of NRA members pro-gun activists would call the number and hang repeatedly. Every call like that would get billed to the Brady Campain. HAHA. Would you not want to foil their efforts.
It`s the same thing with this internet poll you are talking about.

Of course those polls are idiotic. They are in no way scientific, nor are they random.

The reason everyone should care about them anyway is that other readers form vague opinions based on the results of those polls... and talking heads like Rosie love referencing any polls they can find to support their viewpoints. It's one of those unfortunate situations where herd behavior reinforces herd behavior.

Here's a few...

IF the idiots at ABC REALLY think their poll was meaningfull, it is a)nice for them to think that no matter how they slant the questions OR THE NEWS, pro-gun people are 1)well represented, and 2)NOT buying the crap their selling, b) good to show how idiotic such "unscientific polls" are because anyone with even moderate PC skills can slant the results one way or the other, c)cool that if/when they want to report the results of their idiotic polls, they just may have to say something like "surprisingly, only 50% of people we polled thought more gun control is the answer", and d) possibly helpfull that anti-gun people seeing the poll may realize that there is a 50-50 chance they are wrong (instead of having their slanted views somehow confirmed automatically) - and just might wonder why.

If you don't think such things can have an impact on an issue - you ain't paying attention.

Well, as far as Rosie loving to reference polls that support her idiotic way of thinking...
I have never, that I can recall, seen a poll about whether more gun control laws are needed, that came out in favor of more laws.

EVERY TIME I have seen CNN, ABC, et al run such a poll, the pro-gun side runs away with it -- and then no mention of the poll is ever heard (outside of pro-gun message forums) again.

So? It's an internet poll. No matter what the results are, they're still meaningless. Why not just leave it alone and then beat anyone who tries to use it in a debate over the head with the fact that - gasp - internet polls are meaningless? Joyfully flocking to mess up someone's data - even if it would be used for nefarious anti-gun purposes - is somewhere around the level of spraypainting NRA 4EVA on brick walls. Accomplishes about as much, too.

you are against on what we say.

What the heck does that mean?

why are you reading these posts then? much less posting a new thread.

This is an interesting thread.

I classify it under the heading:
"Do whatever you think will help the cause of Firearms Owners; but if your efforts are directed differently than mine, you're a moron".

This is a mistake our enemies never make....they embrace everyone's efforts, so long as they're working against firearms owners.

Come to think of it, the thread's not that interesting after all. I, for one, could care less for these polls; but I sure as heck won't spend time grousing about people voting in them. That's their choice.

Thread closed for lack of merit.
