History of m1 garand

Hey all, sorry i haven't been on this sight a whole lot since i have gotten the b.r.d. that being said, i have a wonderful springfield m1 garand that i know nothing about. can anyone help, give me a sight to go to etc. serial #2627661, i believe all #'s match but not sure. im not trying to find value, just history, what a great gun!! Thanks for any help.

Your rifle was born in Feb 1944.

The only real serial number is on the receiver. All of the other numbers are drawing numbers. There is no such thing as a "matching" Garand, but it can be "correct" meaning that the drawing numbers are all from the same period as the receiver.

The chances of an all-original WW2 M1 are slim as most went though at least one arsenal inspection/repair during their lifetimes. Little effort was made to keep original parts with rifles.

The best way to figure out what you have is to fill out a data sheet and consult some reference manuals. You never know... you may just have a collectible part or two in your rifle!
