His and Her MAks?

I've posted once, but lurked for hours on TFL just absorbing as much info as I can. As soon as finances clear up i plan on buying 2 Makarov's. Yes Finances are that bad. But I have a bit of an idea I came up with to fit my situation.
At the end of May my soon to be fiance is moving in with me. Starting in Aug/Sep. she will be going to medical school in downtown Norfolk. As anyone in the area can tell you this isnt the best neighborhood to be in. I have convinced my gf that she needs some way of protecting herself as the bg's dont play fair.
She has never fired a gun but i dont think i will have a problem getting her on the range and as most of you have written once you get the hook set its easy to get them reeeled into "our way of thinking".
So here was my plan. I was planning on getting 2 Maks one for her and one for myself. This way we would both be able to learn on the same piece and both would be comfortable firing the other's gun. If i find out she doesnt like guns and will not carry one i am only out $100 and can use the extra for parts or backup.

Any thought ideas or comments would greatly be appriciated.

A Makarov is a good choice for an inexpensive, reliable, carryable gun. Having multiples of a gun is always a nice thing; you'll always have spare parts, and one can become your "favorite".

About 15 years ago when I lived in N-News, my car broke down in a "bad" part of Norfolk at night, and let me tell you, I would have felt MUCH better with a Mak on my side.

All the major distributors of Maks like J&G and SOG are out right now and it will be May/June before some are expected. Hopefully the prices will be what they were before but many seem to think they will be higher. We'll see.
