Hirtenberger/surplus .308 ammo in my Rem 700VS

Military .308 ball ammo actually has slightly beefer cases, so if anything, it's safer than commercial grade ammo. I use Hirt in my 700 VSSF and M1A, and one difference I notice from commercial Hornaday BTHP is that the bolt feed in the VSSF drags a bit more with the Hirt.

Why though?

I shot some of the CAVIM out of my 700VS and it was like 2moa at 100 yards. That is just no fun at all. That is fine for screwing around with the M1A, but I just never shot that ball stuff through my bolt gun again. Just my opinion and if you find pleasure in firing the ball surplus through your rifle, then keep enjoying it! Who am I to spoil the fun.

El Rojo,

Agree in principle, however, the Hirt produces 1" MOA in my VSSF with Leupold 4.5x14x50 LRT scope. Hornady BTHP is better, but not much with my shooting. YMMV.
