Aim Surplus has the following for $169.50 per 1000:

.308 Made by Hirtenberger of Austria, Boxer primed reloadable, FMJ, Non-Corr, Brass cased, 147grn.

Has anyone tried this ammo? Any good?

I haven't tried it yet, but several of my trusted compadres rave about it. Accurate, and fairly hot. I'm awaiting 1000 rds for my STG.

I've only fired 120 rounds of mine, but so far, so good.

The ammo was manufactured in the early 80's, but comes packaged as well as you can imagine: wooden crate, 200rds in 20rd boxes in each of the 5 heavy-duty (MRE-like) plastic "battle paks (their words)." Each round appears to be sealed with blue/green varnish.

My favorite part of the packaging was at the bottom of the label on the wooden crate: "Keep out of reach of children."

That's the one thing missing from the nuclear bomb that Sideshow Bob stole in the Simpsons.

I've ran it in my M1A. I like it I've shot about 500rds of it,not one malf. we chronographed it and it shoots a very consistant 2600fps average. I think its the best milsurp .308 I've tried. I'll buy some more!

Wunderwaffe:Are you refering to using the fired cases? I've used the Hirtenberger cases with 39.0 grs of IMR 4895 with the Sierra 168 gr HPBT with very good results in my M1A.

Yes sir, good stuff. Have run apx 400+ through
my L1A1 with not a hitch.
Ammunitionstore.com was selling it for $159/case
$155/3 or more, as of 2 weeks ago.
Hope this helps.

Just like to remind that good Radway Green has also been available for $130/1000 delivered from Century.

Of course, this stuff isn't reloadable; but surplus is cheaper than reloading! (reloading plinking ammo, won't replace your accuracy loads of course).

One thing about the Hirt - has anyone reloaded with it? Although boxer primed, someone told me that military boxer primers on such ammo is crimped into place/hard to get out.

If it's easily reloadable, though - Hirtenberger is not too bad a way to get your hands on some brass!!

Battler.

I've used alot of the cases and had good results. They are not hard to deprime at all,you do have to ream the primer pocket but thats not hard at all. I've got a buddy sitting on a case and I'm all over him to go out and waste a couple hundred rounds so I can pick up the brass.
