HiPower Mags

I just bought a new to me standard cap BHP mag (it wasn't in a box and I can find no mfg makes on or in it) for my FEG and it rattles when loaded, like there's a marble rolling around in the bottom of it! It doesn't rattle empty or with 6 or fewer rnds in it it doesn't rattle at all, 7-14 and it rattles plenty. I took it apart (first time I've disassembled a mag) and all seemed in order Changed the spring arond 180 degrees (front to back and top to bottom, not at the same time). I tried two different brands of ammo and no difference. How do I fix this?

My original mag doesn't rattle at all.

Also, the mag that came with my FEG holds 14 rnds as does this 'new' mag, I thought standard cap was 13?

1. Some HP mags rattle.

2. You might have an Inglis magazine. They officially have a 13 rnd capacity, but they can be loaded to 14. Wait until Steve Camp shows up, and he'll tell you if its a bad idea to cram 14 in or not.

;)

I have 2 inglises and I just load 'em to 13...

Hello. Some HP magazines just rattle when loaded beyond a certain point and it can vary from magazine to magazine. I have some Inglis magazines that will hold fourteen, but I still just load the standard number of rounds, 13. I do this because compressing springs beyond that which they set up for can weaken them pretty quickly, or so I've read. I tend to believe it as 8-rnd 1911 magazines that are the same sized as the traditional 7-rnd magazines used to develope problems in feeding the last round in the magazine. An extra round could be added by altering the follower, making it shorter such that the extra round could be crammed in. The spring was really compressed. I think this problem's been pretty much alleviated now, but I don't think I'd push it with the HP magazine. However, there's not much real risk in damaging the magazine with one being able to purchase Wolff replacement springs now.

The link below will take you to a site that has much information on BHP magazines.

Best.

Coronach,

I JUSt knew Mr.Camp would be by (putting HiPower in the subject line works the same as the Bat Signal for Batman).:)

That is an excellent website you linked to Stephen! I would appear that I have aqquired a Mystery Mag of the Lot 1 variety with "GI" in very small letters on the underside of the molding.

I guess the rattle is something that I will have to live with, at least I have a second magazine now. BTW the original one appears to be OEM from FEG.
