Hintenberger 9mm

I almost bought some of this stuff this weekend to shoot in my FN high power. The box said Hintenberger 100 grain lead flat point High Pressure Law Inforcement Ammo at least thats how I remember it. The salesman said he shot it all the time out of his Browning High Power but not to shoot it out of cheap 9mm guns. I asked what kind of velocities it ran at and he said between 1800 and 1900. Decided I would check someone here before turning my nice FN into a hand grenade. What do you all think, is this stuff ok for a hand gun or is for Subguns and carbines only? Is it above a +p?

I shot this stuff about 6-7 yrs ago; I understand it's made for subguns such as UZIs and MP5s. If your HiPower is an early one which has soft metal, I do not recommend. It shot great out of my Baby Eagle, though I would not shoot it out of my Beretta 92fs. Personally, I think it's specialized ammo.

I got a case of the stuff years ago.
It is +P+ but is not as hot as regular old Federal government contract 115 gr FMJ

It is good ammo. It is better than allot of 9mm I have shot. But it costs more too.

I have shot it in more than a dozen 9mms. It is always powerful enough to cycle the action and not so powerful that it bulges the cases on the WORST case support chamber. Glock 19s and Kel-Tek P11s have horribel case support and they do OK.

It seems that every time I read about a gun not being up to some task because of metalurgy, it turns out the guy talking does not know what steel or heat treat was used. Let alone calculated the yield point of a structure with a formula for bend modulus through cross sections. Never once has a guy that thought he knew enough to say a gun was not strong engouh, did he talk about sheer, tension, or compression. They talk, but it is percieved risk, not calculated risk. It is allot like anti gun people who know something is dangerous, but turn out to know nothing but their own fears.

Fired the 100gr +P+ 0ut of my sig 226 without a problem. the beretta should handle this round easily. G.R. Browning should have no trouble with the round either

1800 0r 1900 fps??? Out of a pistol??? The Hirtenberger 9mm "FL" is rated by Hirtenberger at 1475 fps out of an 8" test barrel. Out of your HiPower, you'd likely get about 1300 fps.

Hello. I'm not sure if it's the same Hirtenberger ammo you're speaking of, but I chronographed some of the 100gr JSP at an average velocity of 1299 ft/sec from a Browning HP. Best.

Yeah well i did not take the guy at his word, but thats what he said. I guess he thought that would make a sale. It really scared me off. I was thinking this stuff must be loaded HOT if its running at that speed. I will probably pick up a few boxes and see how it shoots now that I hear it's safe to shoot.

I still have several hundred rounds of this ammo and my particular lot will do 1,340 from my 92FS and 1,290 from my P7M8. Good ammo and I would have no reservation about using it in any quality pistol. I noticed that when shot in dim or low light, it shows a streak of light like a tracer (but not as bright). Anybody else notice this?
