Hillary and Lazio

OK, I just have to rant about this, please bear with me.

Many of you on this board have expressed sympathy to TFL members in New York because Hillary is now our junior senator.

Please don't bother, New York deserves all the ridicule you can heap on it, I really don't mind. In fact, I agree with all of you. This State is full of Morons (Or gorons?)

Hillary is our senator because we let it happen. We wailed loudly about her being a carpetbagger while she ran a perfect campaign. While Lazio was bumbling his way through the pre election hoopla, his opponent was quietly working her cheesy butt off campaining where she had to. She covered the upstate counties while Lazio couldn't find his way north of NYC. Realizing she had the NYC vote she went to work where the experts told her she was weak, in the upstate counties. She kissed babies, milked cows, baked bread, admired crafts at county fairs, judged pigs and goats at 4H shows (yeah we do have them in NY state). She went where her presence was not wanted and won over enough votes to win her the election.

She went to an occasional gala in NYC, and totally stayed out of the Long Island counties where Lazio came from.

Lazio was hampered by a late start, only had 5 months to get his presence out to the public. George Pataki and Rudy Giuliani, who hate each other, did not help him when he needed it. Rudy was too busy with his new squeeze, and Pataki was too busy passing new gun legislation, which pissed off the upstate hunters and farmers who are Pro gun.

To NYC voters, Lazio looked like some high school kid running for class president. To long Islanders, he was not liberal enough for the soccer moms, who turned on him in spite of his extensive fight for Breast Cancer legislation and pro choice voting record.

Upstate voters asked, "What does he look like", or "Who is he". To them, he is just another downstate liberal. Upstate New Yorkers hate downstate people with a passion. Worse than southerners hate New Yorkers.

Results: over 80% of the NYC vote for Hillary, Long Island barely for Hillary. Upstate republican Strongholds went 50 to 47 % for Lazio.

Hillary ran a great campaign, Lazio was a dufus. Rudy and Pataki spent election night giving each other the finger while Lazio tried to put on a brave face.

This state deserves Hillary, and Schumer, who did the same thing two years ago.

I don't need sympathy, the rest of you in Flyover country will have elected Bush, that's good enough for me.

Ditto, Ditto

Well said Geoff. The Republican Party in this state is so disorganized and divided, they threw away a great opportunity.

Shades of Chuckie's campaign. He has the winning formula on how to take upstate. Pataki will be finished also when he runs for Re-election. He screwed over his base and won't win in NYC. He needs a primary challenge.

Too bad NYC can't be split off like DC is.

Well written Geoff !

I'm all for dividing NYS into two states. Draw a line on the norther border of Westchester county. Elect 2 new Upstate senators and let downstate keep Hillary and Schumer. It would at least balanced out our state.

Anyway, don't feel sorry for us. It's very hard to generate enough votes upstate to negate all of NYC. But we'll keep trying.

The election for Gov. will be interesting in two years. Pataki sold out gun owners this year with his 5 point plan, for reasons I sure don't understand. I think the Republican party feels, So what, where are they going to turn ? Well, I have news for them. We will NOT vote for the anti-gun Democrat, but we sure as heck won't vote for them either !!!!

Sigh... It's still better to stay and fight then to turn tail and flee [move].

Keep the faith.

Well, if I stay in NY, which I don't want to do, then I will switch from Replicrat to Conservative Party. Met one of the local chairs at a gun store. Pretty sure he is in SCOPE, too.

K80 was right about Lazio. He pretty much acted like a default candidate. Look for the Dems to swarm out of NYS like bats out of a cave in the near future. They'll be back-slapping each other silly and lieing to the national media about what a success NYS is. Yech. If this state is so damn great why is it gonna lose 5 representatives in the House? Of course, they will be upstate reps. That cancer on America, NYC, will become even more disproportionally influentual. Just like in ancient Rome, the complaints of concentrated useless urbanites drown out the voice of the dispersed productive citizens.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his ability to piss and moan and invoke false pity.

Watching that buffoon Clinton go into a NYS voting booth made my stomach turn. Time to move back to Texas. Let's detach NYC and anchor it off the coast of France...
