High Standard target .22

I need some help here.

Someone I know wants to sell a target .22. They showed me the pistol, but I'm not very knowledgeable about these guns.

It's a High Standard. It had SuperMatic(?) on the left side of the barrel. The barrel is fairly long, maybe 6 inches or so. It is fluted. The blue on the gun is close to 100%. It's in outstanding shape. The bore is clean and shiny, with no fowling or apparent wear. Action works smoothly. Trigger is a dream. The rear adjustable sight is mounted to the frame and goes over the top of the slide. Even the magazine is clean. I doubt this pistol has more than 100 rounds through it.

So, what would be a "easy sell" figure for this gun. She said that her husband (who can't shoot now due to disabilities) was offered $250.00 for it by a gun shop a year or two ago. Is that a realistic figure?

Thanks for any info.

You can check out some of the firearms auction sites on the web. Overtime Supermatics will pop up. Based on what you have said, I would say a $250 price is low but I am not expert. There is also a place to get a "blue book" value on it . . . perhaps one of the others can give you specifics.

$250 seems kinda low to me as well. Shooting buddy recently picke one up for $400 (it was stainless & came w/ scope rings). We had alot of fun shooting it :) Not sure exactly which model he bought tho. If it's in good condition, you might have a deal on your hands ;)

It's a fair bet that the shop offered him anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of what it's worth. That's just business. If the gun is of interest to you, see what you might be able to work out for yourself. It's a decent shooter.

The fluted barrel is 7.25". There were generally 3 models of Supermatic starting from Tournament through Trophy grades. A gold trigger and mag release is the sign of a higher grade. Look to see where the pistol was made. Hopefully it will say Hamden, Ct and not New Haven, Ct or, God forbid, Houston, Tx. If the serial number starts ML and it was a Hamden gun you have found yourself a real BUY!!! I paid $450 for a Hamden Victor two years ago and thought I did well. I would pay that for a high grade, late model, Hamden Supermatic in a heartbeat.
