High Standard Sentinel prices

I've been watching .22 prices a lot lately and have noticed that many of the old High Standard and H&R revolver prices are all over the board, HS in particular.

I've seen a few early Sentinels sell for a couple hundred more than newer ones in much nicer condition. Are the 50s guns more collectible or something?

This early R-100 just sold for $485 on GB.

Wow...$485

I got one last fall for $160 and it has the same cylinder rub marks above the trigger and the scratches on the side from the ejector. Mine does, however, have the upgraded, genuine plastic stag grips.

Actually, kidding aside, I really do like my R-100. Just a really fun plinker, accurate enough, reliable. What else do you want or need in a 22?

Now, I'd really like to find an old H&R top break in .22. But I think I might have missed the boat on a reasonable price.

I was thinking about selling my Sentinel, but after discovering how much lighter it is than the loaded S&W M-60 I might try it as a carry gun. The +'s for the HS are: 9 vs 5 shots, lighter weight, longer barrel and more accurate (for me). The only minus is the caliber, and to be honest I rarely carry the M-60 because of the weight. I was thinking about the LCR-22, but I really want a hammer for the SA option, especially with a short barrel/sight radius.

The larger and more modern H&R 9-shot top-breaks do seem to have a following that's willing to pay. The older nickel plated 7-shot .22s don't seem to sell for as much.
