High Standard Derringer

I have a new toy that I bought just because I liked the way it looked. I would love to know more history. I have added some aftermarket grips. I know that a lot of people used this as a "wallet gun" and therefore removed the grips. I am attaching a picture and hope to hear some chatter if anyone has the knowledge and the time. Thanks.

Developed primarily as a police officer's back up gun, but purchased by many civilians for discreet carry. The gun was made in .22 lr and .22 WRM. Available in blued, nickeled, and gold plated finishes. Well made little guns. The attached wallet holsters convert the guns into an AOW in the eyes of the BATF. After the GCA '68 the HS derringer was one of the very few US made pocket pistols.

Nice gun, I have have mine in 22 magnum for about the last 20 years. Since I developed carpal tunnel and trigger finger it hurts when I shoot it.
Good back up gun for close range work.

I bought one as surplus from the local prison years ago. They had them for emergencies where someone might need to carry on the grounds. IT was a .22mag, came with a wallet holster, and was less than $150 bucks. I threw the wallet holster out after the Man declared that it could be an AOW.

I also had a customer that wanted one sawed off!. He was originally trying to get it to fit in a tobacco can. It didn't get that small, but it was kind of neat. The customer is always right.

Thank you for the good information. This one is a .22 lr - sorry for the fuzzy photo. I need to do a new one with the new black grips. I seriously considered refinishing it with Moly Resin, but since I have decided to leave it as is. I sort of like the vintage look. It is not something I will shoot a lot, but it's handy to have around and I just like the way it looks.

Sawed off! Whoa! I can't imagine. I guess the customer is always right, but that is pretty bizarre. I refer to it as my "gut gun" now, I can only imagine with an even shorter barrel.

H.S. derringer:

Still got mine. It is very old and the nickel is coming off of it but still shoots every time I pull the trigger. I used to use it for carrying in my pocket (when walking on the beach at night, ATM, etc) until I bought a S&W 442 to stick in my pocket.
The only thing I didn't like about the High Standard derringer was it was not even close to being accurate. It is strictly a gut gun for close in protection. Very loud too (but that could be helpful)....

Si if local shop has one for $240, ...

is it a good deal? (it a blued, with the ivory type panels and a .22WMR)

Had one years ago. It was accurate enough once you realized each barrel shot to a different point, and remembered which barrel would fire next. It was fun to play with, but 2 shots of .22 in that much size and weight was just not good enough. I sold it.

Still have mine WMR bought it in 1968. Dumped the wallet for it wish I had kept the original grips though. Fun gun to shoot especially at night, the flame is huge

I have had a couple of them, accurate enough for their intended use and always work. Fun to plink around with. The limit of two rounds for protection bothered me so I went in another direction.

Friend of mine carried one with snake shot for work in his yard - house in the country with vile serpents. Works for him.

I have a NAA 22 mag revolver I use for the same, sometimes.
