High Standard .45

I have a High Standard .45 by the company in Texas.
So far, with almost 3,000 rounds behind it, the gun
is amazing. Accurate, reliable, well, extremely accurate.
Has safety fast shooting system. It is a little tight but
works at all times. Had a few malfs with cheap magazines
but the gun is very, very good even for a 1911.
Any other H/S owners, and comments on the gun?
I have made up my mind on this gun, it is among the better modern .45s I have fired. 1911s are individuals and perhaps I have the best one ever made! I have certainly had good and bad in the other makes.

Comments, kind words or otherwise?

When I say accurate, I mean 2-3 inches at 25 yards with average handloads and ball ammo but the occasional 15/16 th inch or 7/8 inch group from a solid rest with match handloads or Pro Load ammunition. Black Hills 230 RNL also very, very accurate---

lets hear it from HS .45 owners!

RKC,

I don't own a Hi Point, but have cleaned and lubed two new ones for a friend (he lost an arm in an accident). He has still not fired the 45, and only fired one mag through the 9mm, so I can't vouch for the accuracy or reliability.

They seem to be well make for the price, and definitely have a different slide mounting system. Instead of grooves and rails like a 1911, they use a ball on a post at the rear of the frame which rides in a round slot milled into the bottom of the slide. The front of the slide rides on the fixed barrel. I've never seen anything like it, but it must work, as I've heard good reports about accuracy and reliability.

These are both blow back designs, rather than delayed lockup like most autos.

I'll let you know if I ever get to shoot them. :D

Interesting to hear a story in praise of the oft-aligned 'new' High Standard in Texas.

I am curious to hear from anyone having experience with the High Standard Victor - that is, the version manufacturered in Texas.

Oops,

How the heck did I read Hi Point into this thread? :D

Please disregard my previous message.

Bill (slightly embarrassed)
