High Standard .22--Shootability Questions

Greetings,

Anyone have any information to share on old High Standard .22's? Are they hard to find parts for? Are they worth the trouble of keeping them running? I've heard they were exceptionally accurate--any opinions?

Thanks,

Thems that got...keep. Prices on em just keep going up and up...they be getten like the Walthers PPKs in appreciation value. Only difference is they shoot really great as far as being accurate. I've got one with 3 extra clips. Looking for a shorty 4" barrel to occasionally slip on...but its somethen I can live without if I don't find one. I also have a Red head brand leather holster for it, the red head has a duch reference on it...they probably haven't been in business for decades...but a great holster for the HS.

Ditto James E except I am looking for a 7 1/2" incher. Don't know why as the 5" bull shoots into one hole. Just boredom I guess. Sold a Smith 41 and never regretted it. But the HS shoots rings around it and doesn't have the annoying torque.
Brownell's has all the parts for them. Although the only thing I have ever needed was a slide release spring that I lost.

I purchased a Model 103 Trophy (mfg. 1963, 7.25" fluted barrel) 3 months ago. It was in excellent condition, probably fired very little. It is a wonderful and accurate pistol. I doubt I will ever outgrow it. I've tried several brands of target and match-type ammo and it seems to function well with all. Mine is especially fond of Eley and Federal Target. Finding extra HS factory mags was a pain (Triple K mags are crap), but now that I have some extras, everything is cool. I bought a spring set from Wolff, but doubt I'll need to worry about springs for a while. I'm very happy with mine and I'm on the lookout for a vintage "The Victor". Go for it!

I've had a Model 103 Trophy (mfg. 1963, 7.25" fluted barrel) for about 3 months. It has great balance and is very accurate, a real pleasure to shoot. I doubt I'll ever outgrow it's performance. It has shot several brands of target and match grade ammo quite well. Factory HS mags have been difficult to find, but necessary. Stay away from the newly manufactured stuff (Triple K). You can get replacement springs from Wolff, which is all you'll likely need. It's a great gun and I would recommend HS to anyone wanting a high quality shooter. I also recommend the Tom Dance book (High Standard, A Collector's Guide to the Hamden and Hartford Target Pistols) as a valuable resource before you buy.
