Just bought a CZ 452 Varmemt in 22LR . Would there be any problem in using a Nikon 6-14x40 that came off a 308 and use it on a 22.

There could be problems.

Depends on the distances you want to shoot and the minimum focusing/parallax distance of the scope.

Great for your 100-200 yard shooting but much above 9 is going to introduce a some target wobble in your scope unless you are firmly mounted in a gun rest. I only go to 6 or above if I'm in competition or taking long range shots, 4x-6x is my preferred range and I find a 3-9 x 30 to be plenty of scope.

It would help to know the Nikon model to figure out what distance the focus is set for. Or if it has an Adjustable Objective/either front- or side-focus we could look at the minimum possible focus.

At the very worst, any scope will work if you keep your pupil precisely centered behind the scope.

I use a 6x24x44 on my .22 sporter, I use 24x for money games against heavy target rifles ant my local clubs .22BR fun shoots. Those guys are using 36 to 50X scopes. I turn it down to 6 when I'm in the woods. On my Walther UIT I use a modified Weaver T36 bumped up to 50x.

Not a problem

I have two target rifles set up this way. One scope goes up to 16X and the other to 24X. Both have a 50MM objective. We routinely shoot flies at 100yds. Don't always hit them but do, most of the time.
A bit surprising but sometimes I can see my rounds flying into the target. Pretty neat !! ... :)

Be Safe !!!

I use a Mueller Eraticator(8-25X50) on my KIDD 10/22 and love it. At 50 yards the tiny dot barely covers the bull and even out to 100, every bullet hole can be seen on the paper. Just to give an idea off what 25 power looks like at 50 I'll give an example. The last time at the range I watched an ant walk up the side of my target frame and of course I had to try to shoot him, without hitting the frame of course. I could see each bullet streak by the lucky little guy as escaped death:D...I've never had more fun shooting than I do with this rifle, a large part of that is due to the high magnification scope..
