High Capacity Magazines: When legal in California?

I live in California. My CCW is a Glock 19 I purchased back in 1993. When I purchased it, I also purchased 2 additional 15 rnd mags. Given recent legislation in California banning high capacity mags like mine, I'm wondering where I stand with my high capacity mags? Legal? Illegal?.. I'm thinking I'm okay since they were purchased prior to the recent legislation, but wanted to get some feedback. Much appreciated..

My understanding is the new law makes it Illegal to possess anything over a 10 round capacity after the effective date.

No provision for the grandfathering of already possessed mags.

I agree with sharkbite, as I understand the new law will make them illegal to own period. You either have to sell them to someone outside of the state or turn them in. I would rather sell them then give them to the state with no monetary compensation. If you decide to sell let me know your price.

I would put them away some place. But I would also weigh the penalties of caught. Small fine I would risk it. loss of gun rights I might think twice. If I could I would leave the state. Wait I did, I left California in 1978.

Californian's are kinda shafted until TETOWAKI, WW3, Zombie Plague,
or Civil War...which are all about equally likely,
although the possibility of civil war is increasing by the day...

You need to consult a lawyer. You live in a state controlled by Marxists and as such coming to a place like this could result in the loss of your freedom. Your best option would be to live in a free state.

I have a 15 round mag in the garage somewhere, but can't readily find it. If I don't find it before the effective date, I suppose I'll be a criminal?

I can understand folks wanting to live in CA. It is a beautiful State and has employment opportunities with good salaries.

If I lived there, I would look to own a place in another State that was gun friendly and keep my higher capacity magazines stored on that property. Otherwise, I would hope to have a relative or close friend in a gun friendly State who would store them for me.

There maybe a time when CA has a upheaval and fires their restrictive politicians like Colorado did a year or so back in time.

Some may choose to retire in more gun friendly States and then use their stored magazines.

Otherwise sell them to some of us lucky enough to be able to use them where we live our lives. :)

TFL can only allow posts that explain the law and how to comply with it legally.

Suggesting actions that violate the law is not permitted.

Please consult with appropriate authorities and attorneys about how to proceed.

Discussing how to use the legislative process or the courts to void such laws is legitimate.

Is there a way to modify magazines to accept only 10 rounds that will comply with the law in California? I have heard the term "pinning" used in that regard. Of course I don't know what that would do to reliability of the magazine or being able to take it apart to clean it.

I should add that California is one of the most beautiful states with great climates but I left this year after 10 years of planning and working to find the right place. Too many stupid laws in addition to the terrible gun laws. Moving saved me over 10% in taxes alone. I realize that isn't an option for everyone, but it can be done

You live in California, what do you think they'll make you do? No way you'll be able to keep them.

I specifically cautioned about suggesting that one breaks the law.

But two such were made, and deleted.

While you may disagree with a law (obviously), we do not accept such posts. A continuation of such posts will lead to a loss of privileges at TFL.

Work against the law in the legislature and courts.

if you have an out of state friend or relative you trust, you could always send it to them to hold for you in case they law is not upheld or changes, although without a date stamp of some type (useful if there was ever a "grandfather" situation), it could be just as easy to replace them later, as long as other states don't also go crazy.

What?! You mean kalifornia and the great state of New York actually allows it's citizens to own a firearm that is more than a "one shot weapon"?

I truly do feel for you all. From my reading, I also agree that once the effective date turns on, possession will be a crime. But, I'm not a lawyer so you might consult one.

Just one question though . . . . you law abiding citizens are worrying about this and the possession of a high capacity mag after the ban date. I'm assuming all of the "criminals" are as well? That law ought to make the streets a lot safer and you'll be able to sleep better at night.

Idiot politicians and idiotic laws that they pass are just one of the great reasons to make you vote count in the next election. Throw these bums out and make them get a real job . . . . .

Despite warning, some folks chose to continue not to follow staff suggestions.

These posts were deleted as were some righteous comments on them. The repeated posters have been dealt with.

I did not sanction earlier posts about breaking the law but warned. As a lesson to TFL members, if you are warned about something and continue that is a problem for you. Also, if you say you are going to quit TFL, do that.
