High cap mag legality

Today I was at the range and my friend gave me some startling news. I don't know if he's wrong or right. He says if you own a post ban weapon than you can not legally own high cap mags for said weapon, pre or post ban. This concerned me greatly so I did some checking and ATF regulation 178.40a would seem to support his remark. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Not true. One of the points of the S&W sellout was that the dealer who wanted to sell S&W couldn't sell any new pistols that would take STANDARD cap mags (ex.Glock). Pre ban mags can be used in a post ban gun as long as the mag is not modified. Post ban STANDARD cap mags are an LE only item. Post ban reduced mags can be used/owned by anyone.

Be careful what you ask for..You may get it.
An unloaded pistol is a paperweight.

3 gun is correctamungo.

I don't know and I don't care. I have six hi-caps for my Ruger 9mm (15rd), four hi-caps for my SKS, and three hi-caps for my AB-10... I bought them, so therefore, as far as I am concerned, they are legal. But legal or not, I really don't give a *hoot* any longer. Heck, I drove over 200 miles to step across the Oregon/Kali line with an SKS with (GASP) Flash Suppressor, Bayonet Lug, Folding Stock, and 30 rds of ammo fully loaded. Who the heck cares anymore?
