Hi-Power Smith

I had a local guy here in the Seattle aresa I was going to use to do trigger work and maybe put new sights on my BHP-40 but I find he no longer is in the business. Open for suggestions on a good smith to do this work. Was hoping not to send it out of state but would consider it if it's not too much hassle. Do I need an FFl to do it for me. Thanks.

Clint,

While I don't know the answer to your question, I have one for you.

My younger brother lives near Seattle in a place called Bonnie Lake. He has never gotten into shooting much but wants to. He expressed a desire to get a 9mm BHP or a CZ 75 (steel frame auto) when he was down to see me last. He wants a new one.

Can you recommend a gun shop or shops that he should look at in the Seattle, Tacoma area? Somewhere where he won't get gouged on price. He has fired my BHP and loves it but not sure he can afford one as high as they seem to be getting. I suggested the CZ 75 as a good alternative depending on how much he feels like forking down.

Thanks,

Russ

They quote darn good prices, even on special-order stuff. Nice guys too. It's a pawn shop. Definitely one of the places to call for a price check.

Russ, If your brother is willing to drive he should check out Kesselrings' Guns up by Bellingham. When I lived on Whidbey Island, my friends and I would make the pilgrimage to this "Mecca" just to look and touch. They move a lot of product in the region and this accounts for the excellent prices (IMHO). Be forewarned, they are oft times very busy and the salesmanship can be brusque. If your brother is unsure about his choices, he might do well to fondle the options at a 'newbie' friendly shop and ask all his questions. He can call Kesselring's for prices after he's made a decision. Good Luck!

Hi Russ, My favorite gun store in the Seattle area is Adventure Sports on highway 99 out by Lynwood which is just north of Seattle. I think though your brother may have a tough time finding a new BHP, on the shelf anyway. Maybe someone can order one in. I haven't seen a new one in quite a while. I bought my 40 about 4 years ago. Out in that same neighborhood is a place called Gun Town which is also a good place with knowledgable helpful folks. Closer to home for him would be Bullseye in Tacoma. Even though we love our HP's and they are truely one of the most ergonomicaly pleasing semi's around (my opinion) they sure don't seem very popular around here. I think about selling my Belgium made 9mm from the 70's and just keeping the 40. It would be tough though. Good luck to him and tell him to check out the show at Puyallup this week. Prez Chuck is going to be there.

I had mine worked on by Kurt Wickmann (used to be with Novak's). He got my $279.00 FN Israeli surplus to "Work of Art" status:) His trigger job is fantastic.

Thanks all. Hope you find a good smith for your HP Clint. Whatever you do, don't send it to Kalifornia to have it worked on. The way its getting here, the govt. might not let you get it back.

I just got my AIM Israeli-surplus High Power worked on by T. Mark Graham of Arizona Response Systems (www.arizonaresponsesystems.com) and am very pleased with it. I will be posting a full report here soon, after I get a chance to take it to the range. But, without yet shooting it, I am really pleased and impressed.
