Hi Power Practical Still Available?

Does anybody know whether it is still possible to purchase a Browning Hi Power Practical (with fixed sights) NIB from a dealer in the United States?

I heard a while back that it is discontinued from regular distribution but that it is still being sold overseas. Does that mean it can still be special ordered in the US?

I'd appreciate if anyone here knows for sure.

I have the MK III Silver Chrome Model. I have not seen that, nor the Practical model, new at shops for many years. I don't believe they are on the Browning Website either. They only list the base "MK III", and "Standard" model (which is also a MK III, but with nicer blued finish, and wood grips).

I have not seen a NIB practical in a long time. It is rare to see a NIB BHP of any kind in a shop these days. I have seen some trickle in to shops within the last 6 months.

The local shop that has one says it was on order for over 12 months. I do not think you can special order one if it is not being produced for the US market. The best bet is to look in the used market for a LNIB gun. They are around and can be found and you will pay about what a NIB BHP would cost you.

JJNA, I don't know what limited distribution item means either, but have not seen a new Practical in a gunshop, or advertised for sale by a distributor or dealer, for years. I can't even remember the last time I even saw a used Practical in a gun shop. I did stumble across, and buy, a LNIB one a year or so ago at a small local gun show. I do occasionally see them for sale on gunBroker, etc. Happy hunting.

FWIW, It sure seems to me that Browning is, at best, not interested, or actually discouraging importation of Hi Power pistols for commercial sale in the United States......ymmv
