Hi Power Barrels

My recent experiments with the .357 SIG have led me to the conclusion/delusion that I really like this round. I have in mind a new pistol project which would be a custom Hi Power based on a .40 model but with a .357 barrel installed. I haved searched the web for makers of such a beast and have struck out. Websites I have tried:

Bar-Sto
Jarvis
Olympic

If anyone has other places I might look or knows of a barrel maker that will do one from scratch, I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks,

Jeff

Anyone have contact info for KKM? Tried their website and was directed to a Microsoft advertisement. I have a KKM barrel in a Glock, it is a great shooter. I'd be tickled maroon if they provided what I am looking for.

Thanks.

I had this idea too a few months ago, and may be interested in pursuing it again. Kevin McIntire (who is I assume the principal at KKM) emailed me about it but I can't locate his reply right now. But he does sell the barrel.

My questions were whether the 40 cal mags would work without alteration (in other guns, some do and some don't) and whether there were any hicap 40 cal mags around.

Good luck and let us know the results.

Abruzzi, I don't know for sure whether unaltered .40 caliber mags will work. However, I do know that there are no US-legal .40-cal mags for the HP. The gun was introduced after the ban.

And, Andabeer, I once contacted Bar-Sto about this type of conversion. Irv Stone informed me that he did make .357 barrels for the HP for a short while but was unable to make the conversion work as reliably as he wanted. But I keep hearing reports that some folks have had success.

If someone does this conversion and can file a full report, I'd be interested. I have a .40 HP myself and would love to try it with a .357 barrel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there plenty of 10 round .40 caliber HP mags available?

I managed to track this number down:KKM precision 1-775-246-5444

And yes they do make the barrel for 150. It requires fitting and I have never fit a HP barrel.

At Novaks sight (www.novaksights.com) they offer the installed KKM barrel for 275. Thanks to PT for that tip.

As to full capacity mag availability, I would think that you could only fit 10 rounds of .357/.40 into a HP mag body since the 9mm capacity is "only" 13 rnds. The most you could hope for is one more round. Doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I am going to go forward with this project, but don't look for any reports anytime soon as the two smith shops I have contacted have quite a backlog.

There was a question on the magazine. When I get the guns back from Kevin Stump at Novak after the SIG 357 conversion the follower in the magazine has been changed.

I am no magazineologist. Again there I don't know where you would obtain the different follower.

One customer (of mine who had the conversion) comment was change the mag spring to a 5% plus power and he got that from Wolffs. He shot the corbon .357 which was hotter and he felt the stronger mag spring reduced the "possibility" since the increase slide speed with the hotter load of a misfeed.

Again, this is a customer comment and an owner of the 40/357 SIG conversion
