Hi-Power Air Rifles

Does anyone have any experience with the 9mm air rifles that you charge with an air tank?
I have never seen them except in catalogs. Looks like an over under shotgun. Cost about $1,000.

However, I'll be going to the ROK again and since they are made there I would love to pick one up if the price/quality is good.

Any info would be great.

It's the Career 707 series pre-charged rifle. RWS imports and warrants them now. They normally run about $550. I've some experience with the .22 and .25 models. They hit HARD. Very accurate and a damn sight more reliable than spring-piston guns. They're funny looking, but very good shooters. Magazine fed lever actions, though the 9mm is a single shot.

Dave,
your comment about the "propellent"
air rifles being more reliable than the
spring loaded ones has me intrigued.
I read somewhere that the single stroke
spring guns were just getting broken in
at a million rounds. I believe it was
so stated in a Beeman catalogue I had in
the mid eighties when I was shopping for a
high end Feinwerkbau.

I've heard that as well. Unfortunately, my personal experience says otherwise. I've had two HW97s fail in a years time of moderate (5000rds) use. And these were Beeman guns, not grey market ones. Both were power spring failures. I've also seen RWS guns go through incredible abuse with little maintenance.

Overall, I find precharged guns more reliable. Seal replacement is about all they need, and that rarely. They tend to be simpler and generally less hassle. Same goes for the gas ram guns.

I also have a suspicion that todays Beeman guns aren't what they were 10 to 20 years ago. Those old FWs WERE outstanding guns and still are. I've seen FW124s almost as old as I am selling for $300+ even today.

You pays your money and takes your chances. I'm more inclined to chance pre-charged guns these days. My experience with spring piston guns has been uniformly bad.
