Hi-Point firearms

Several I've seen seem to work okay for first few hundred rounds. After that sell it to your worst enemy.

I don't have any experience with their handguns, but I do have a 995 carbine. It is a fun gun, that is really accurate and dependable. The only problem that I had was caused by me. WARNING WARNING !!!!. Do not use brake cleaner or safety solvent sprayed into a Hi Point. It will soften the plastic trigger and it will break on you. I called them and told them I had a broken trigger, and I had a new one in the mail box 2 days later no charge. Overall, for the money, it is a pretty good carbine, and will allow you to get into the 3 gun matches inexpensively.

Didn't GunTest say they were surprisingly reliable. They do fill a niche. Most guns in their price range are aka Mouse Guns. Personally I would feel more comfortable with a used Taurus/Rossi .38 or a Makarov/PA63.

The carbines are cheap fun. My local FFL stocked the pistols last summer. 11 out of 12 came back defective. 1 was used in a suicide the day it was purchased. It stovepiped on the first round.

But its square like the Glock...

True Story:
My bro and I were out shopping... we went into a pawn shop and the funny guy behind the counter kept trying to sell us the hi point "Look - New Design... SQUARE!"
We walked out instantly... and went and got some chicken burritos - but we were laughing so hard we couldnt eat them.

I bought a Hi-Point model C-9 compact a month ago. I have shot the bejeezuss out of it with out any jams or any other problems. I have called Hi-Point a couple of times with questions and was treated very well. Call them and ask a your favorite pre- purchase questions 419-747-9444. I also shot several groups within a 2" circle at 25 yards. very accurate. very easy to clean. I fired this pistol as fast as I could with out any additional lube and ZERO problems. I'd like a better safety,to carry in condition one. I do not like the disassembly, you have to remove A pin, However the factory does not recommend a full strip before 1500-2000 rounds. I have ordered the 9mm Compensated model that comes with a ten and eight round Mags.

The handguns are FUGLY! I've heard they are not reliable.

I owned a 9mm carbine. Reliable and fun gun. I have heard that there is a .40 caliber version in the works. Has anyone heard about this?

A dealer I know has sold quite a few Hi Point Pistols and has had no comebacks. If I recall correctly, Gun Test really ran them down based on "normal" test criteria like trigger pull, looks, handling, etc., but then had to admit that they were reliable and accurate, the most important factors in a defense pistol.

Would I buy one? Probably not. Would I feel helpless with one? No.

Ive seen them go back with slides in two halves... I have seen all manner of busted parts.
and IIRC - you can't get a decent leather holster for one either. Although I believe Bagmaster makes several that will work.

I had a HI-Point 9mm compact. It was so bad that I ended up burying it in the desert.

"Glock 26: 17 rounds of concealed carry DEATH comming your way from out of nowhere!!! THAT'S FIREPOWER, BABY!!!"

You could have spraypainted it Gold and mounted it on a plaque... given it as an award to the gun club.

For WORST shot... :D

ugly as sin, and for the same price you can buy a solid steel auto from the former soviet bloc. (now that they aren't commies we should buy their stuff right??)

But if its what you can afford.. by all means.. but ask around very carefully. I'd buy a used/police trade smith .38 over a high point given the choice.
