Any fans of Hi-Point out there? I have the 9mm carbine; so far, after a couple hundred rounds, I'm satisfied. But would like to hear from some more seasoned owners. I'm considering the 9mm compact as a cheap back-up.

You will get 100 replies about how bad these guns are, but it is up to you. I have the 9mm Compact. It has been reliable, but it weighs a ton, too heavy for any type of carry. It weighs more than my 1911. Cheap, fun gun to shoot though.

The carbines are very popular in my area, especially amongst younger shooters. Very few complaints about them, apparently they are reliable and have very few "issues". Best of all is that you can buy 9mm at wally world/K mart and tell them it is for a rifle.

Local range could not keep them in stock after 9/11

Oh Lord!!!!! Here we go again!!!

All I am going to say this time is that my Hi-Point compact is the only gun I have ever abandoned!!! It jammed so much that I buried it somewhere in the southwestern sonoran desert!!!!!!

Yes, I owned one. Yes, they are crap!!! :barf: :barf: :barf:

I watched a 9mm HiPoint brought to my Concealed Weapons class keyhole the bullets at 7 yards. It also jammed at least twice on every magazine. On the positive side, the guy kept all shots on the paper, thus scoring 100% for the CWP and qualifying for his permit. I bet he bought a different gun to carry, though.;)

You will hear a few die hard Hi-Point fans here too. They claim extraordinary results for the money. I haven't even shot one BUT I know that they are mechanically NOT SAFE to carry with a round in the chamber.

Well

I carry the 9mm Comp or my JC40 CCW all the time no problems at all with the handguns yes big and heavy but....so am I.
Go for it I say and just go and shoot and enjoy yourself and when everyone else is jamming just look at your $125.00 gun and laugh all the way too the bank.

the 9mm compact was my first handgun, and I still have it to this day. So far out of my hi-power, 1911, GP-100, and buckmark, it is the only one that has NEVER had any failures of any kind.

You will find that people either like them or despise them. I have yet to see anyone in the middle.

I like and trust mine. The 9mm pistol got me to buy the carbine, which i am very happy with.

Enjoy the hi-point!

My mom has a .380 that one of her friends bought her. I thought, "Oh great, another POS". That just wasn't true. She has had about 6-700 error free rounds from it. I shot about 50 through it today.

On a side note. While we were shooting today, her .380 and my Glock 26, my uncle came over with his newly aqcuired Hi-Point carbine. I shot the crap out of it and it shot sweet. I may just get me one for the fun factor. At only $100 dollars they are some kind of bargain for plinking.

What is it about the design that makes it unsafe to carry with one in the chamber. I took the .380 apart (pain in the ass), and didn't see a firing pin safety. Is this the reason?

Well

The Hi=Points are really a SA trigger and there is no firing pin block and for a safty there is the slide lock on the outside.
Do not carry this pistol with round chambered, one drop from the waist to the floor and you will know why.
I carry mine Condition 3 and I practice a lot on the draw and rack and I must say I am pretty Darn good.
Dont be afraid of the guns, mine has not failed me even in a special situation.
