Hi-Point 9mm Carbine

Sorry guys, I know this has probably been talked about before, but the search is down again.

I went to the gun show here Saturday and saw this (so ugly, it's cute) little rifle. It's the model 955 carbine. I handled it and put it down. Walked around some, came back and looked it over again. I must have repeated this process about 10 times!! On the 11th time, when I walked away, I was carrying it!

It's all black, saw some with, what looked like, chrome on it. It's also got a small 5x32 scope on it. Scope doesn't even have a manufactures name on it, though it does have a model number! LOL Anyways, I bought the carbine/scope combo, 50 rounds of 9mm he had, and a spare magazine for 277.00.

Took it to the range today and shot 200 rounds thru it. NOT ONE HICCUP!!! And the little sucker is accurate too!!!! I was amazed at the way it shot. I've not shot it from a bench yet for groups, but I hit everything I wanted to from 50 and 100 yards! The guy had bore sighted it. It shot 2" high at 50 yards, is dead on from 100! And I never had to touch that scope!

I'm thinking I found me one hell of a fun plinker or urban protector for alot less than an AR would cost me!!! I only wish they had it in .45ACP.

I did pass up a NIB Auto-Ordinance Thompson that was for sale for $850.00! But, there's always next time!

What do you guys think of this little carbine? Any experiences with it? It's ugly as sin, but shoots like an angel!!!

Sounds like you did OK to me! :D

Never heard of anyone bothering to mount a scope on one of those things, though. Since it won't do you much good beyond 100 yards or so I'd think the iron (or are they plastic?) sights would be plenty.

At any rate, you've gotten yourself quite the fun little gun! And I think it probably wouldn't be too bad for an inside-the-house gun either based on its size and a little added muzzle velocity from the additional barrel length.

Congratz on the new toy:)
I had mine for 4 years now and still very accurate since the day I bought it..I dont even bother putting a scope anymore :) ( but I was planning to get those scope mount the one you put in the side of the receiver and you can still use the Ghost ring sight that came with it..I think paul in sksman.com is selling it. I've tried all kinds of ammo and no problem at all ( also its +p+rated). The only pain in the @** is cleaning it..usually I use the snake bore cleaner and a good gun lubricant/cleaner. DONT USE gunscrub or anything strong chemical that will harm the plastic parts inside.I usually clean it thorouly after 2,000 rounds depending on the ammo I used. If not that dirty I usually run the snake cleaner and wipe the gunk that I could see and reach :D I've tried their customer service and they are very helpful and know what's up( if u dont have the triggerlock yet..call them and they are free ;) )oh yah..have the serial # ready and thats the only thing they ask and the problem. BTW, it has a lifetime no question ask warranty and made in the usa  I have all the accessories..so, ask me if u have any question ( the cool one is the buttpads with 2 magazine holder)
I hope I helped on your new HP carbine..I think there are 6 forum member including me that own the 995 here.
Later,
TACTICALDUDE

www.sksman.com (this is where u can order the other kind of scope mount that you mount on the side of the reciever and can still use your peep sight.)

In my end of the pond where handguns are tightly controled, these carbines are very popular with younger shooters. The local indoor range sells them with a laser or without. The laser model is the most popular.

Itr also allows non handgun permit holders to buy 9mm, as the carbine is a rifle. this is important in a state where handguns are a real PITA to get.

The guys who own them rave about them. They were a very popular item after 9/11.

Yes, the HI-POINT carbine strikes yet another! I've had mine for about 2 years. Very accurate semi auto and you can't beat the lifetime warranty(although, I doubt that you'll ever need it).

Mine eats up everything, super cheap stuff to the regular. I'd say you'd be good out to about 100 yards with it. As accurate as it is with iron sights, I'd say, don't worry about the scope, unless it is something that you really want.

Congrats, enjoy, and welcome to the club!

Thanks guys,
The gun came with the scope already on it. Price difference was only 35 bucks and with my failing eye sight (getting old), I decided to go ahead and get it since was worried about being able to see thru the peep sight. The guy must have one hell of a sight collimater or laser because it's spot on with no adjustment needed. Maybe he and I just got lucky! LOL

Butt stock that holds 2 spare mags???? Now I may need that!!!! And a laser! That would be super cool for night time use!!!

I had the carbine for five years and sent it back to Hi-Point twice. The first time was three years after I had it and was for the bolt handle being stripped. It took them two months to get it back to me but they completely rebuilt the carbine and sent me two additional mags. The second time was a year later when I had to jiggle the trigger after every shot to get it to reset. That was fixed within two weeks and I received another two mags. Although they stand by their product it was costing me money to send it back to them and I was begining to lose confidence in it. Since I had a case of 9mm to use up I traded it in for a CZ75B and sold the extra mags over at auctionarms.com.
