Hi-Point .45 ACP Carbine

I shouldered a Hi-Point Carbine the other day. I liked the sights and the price, but Ive herd some bad things about Hi-Points. So i'd like some expert opinions about the Hi-Point .45 Carbine.

First off I am one of those Hi point bashers which I will not do here.
I have a good friend that has several Hi points and one of the carbines in 45. It shoots well and has functioned flawlessly for him. I have shot several magazines through the gun and although it was accurate for a pistol carbine, I don’t care for it. It just feels cheep when compared to my Beretta carbine.
If its money that’s the main reason for buying one then I would say it’s a good purchase. But if money is not a problem there are better choices out there.
My suggestion is to look and handle all that are available and pick the one that fits you and your wallet the best. If it’s the Hi point, then go for it.
Good review on one

I put a cheap BSA Red dot on my 9mm hi-point carbine and its very accurate. I havent had any malfunctions with it other than magazine related. Sure its no beretta but it works, its accurate and reliable, and has a lifetime no questions asked warranty. Its also +P rated. I think if they had reliable hi-cap mags they would sell twice as many carbines as they do now.

I've had the HP .40 carbine for over a year now and it shoots awsome. I had a problem with the front sight post when I got it, but one email and a new one was here 3 days later with another wrench and a hat(no charge). With about 500 rnds through it a $20 red dot sight and a laser I couldn't be happier. You can ring a 8" gong all day at 100yds. I would of got the .45 but I manage to get all the .40's I want for free (made my choice easier).:p

The HP is a cheap gun but for the most part functions well and is accurate.
I've owned a couple and they were good shooters.
Not a pretty gun by any means.
They make good range guns, truck guns and are fair entry level gun for the new shooter on a budget.

I have the 40cal about 4 years feeds anything i give it accurate out to 100 yards, and simply just a fun gun.

High Point carbine

I posted in another thread about High-point carbines, but I will say it here too.

I love the idea of a cheap pistol caliber carbine. Thought about getting one but they look like they were made by Fischer-Price.

I don't want to send it back everytime something plastic breaks.

I'm not bashing High-Point just for the record. All modern carbines look that way to me including Kel-tec and Beretta.

try to find a used Marlin Camp Carbine....my 9mm one had s&W 5906 clips in 15 and 30 rnd and im sorry but i cant remember what ones my camp 45 took.....i kick myself in ass everyday for selling em....they were awesomely accurate and reliable

I purchased one of these "ugly guns" in .45 ACP about 6 months ago. Went right from the gun show to the range. Ran 300 rounds thru it no failure to feed or fire. At 25yds rested on my elbows I put the first 10 rds into a ragged 2 1/2 group. It was approx 5" right and 3" high. After some adjustments I was able to hit clays (on the ground) 50yds. I decided to fire it at 100yds and hit dead center approx. 3 1/2" low. Everyone at the range was amazed at a ".45 ACP even hitting the target at 100yds". I have since put approx. 1000 rounds thru it and still no FF or FS. It digests everything I've put thru it (from Hydra Shocks to Independence FMJ and the 200 gr JHP 6.3gr W231 reloads). I've added a Redhead 40mm red dot (this size allows me to keep the "iron sites" in place) and a surefire flashlight on it. This has replace my 12ga as my home defense gun (momma wouldn't practice with the 12ga). Yes it's heavy, yes it's ugly but I can purchase 5 Hi-Points for the price of one HK, 7 Hi-Points for the price of one Kriss (which I think is the uglest thing I've ever seen), and 2 Hi-Points for the price of the Cx4 Storm or Master Piece Arms. Plus the high point is made in the US and has a lifetime warrenty. I'll take my Hi-Point 4595TS.

camp 45s use 1911 magazines

I like the idea of the hi point carbines, The only weak point to the design is the magazine. The mags compromise reliability and are low capacity. If Hi point designed their guns around a standard high capacity magazine they'd sell twice as many or be able to charge $100 more for each one.

At least the hi poiunbt .45s can use modified 1911 magazines, and the modification is easy and something any idiot can do. The down side is that the mags can't be used in a 1911 after they are modified.

I'd like to try to modify the magazine catch on a hi point .45 carbine to get it to take unmodified 1911 mags.

I dunno about the .45 version,,,

But the new 9mm I just purchased seems to be a decent performer,,,
Especially for it's price range.

Yep, there's a lot of plastic on the gun,,,
But for under $300 what can you really expect.

As of Sunday afternoon,,,
400 trouble free rounds through it.
