Hi Cap Question

I bought a NIB Glock 17. It came with 2 - 10 round mags. This is strictly a range gun, I have other guns for carry. Knowing that this gun should carry 17 rounds kinda bugs me that I can only fit 10. But as a range gun, do I really need 17+1 capabilities? or is it just the idea of having those 17 rounds at my disposal w/o reloading?

I feel the same way about my G22/24C. I shoot 2 classes in GSSF one with my G19 and one with my G24C. i have full-cap mags for my G19 and 10rd mags for my G24C. loading the .40 mags is such a pain i need to use the Glock mag loader to get the last couple rounds in but loading the G19 mags is a breeze. I really want to get full-cap mags just to make loading mags easier (plus i hate that i know the gun can hold 5 more rounds) yet at the same time i know i don't need them at all since it's just a range/competition gun. I keep saying if i have extra cash some time i'll buy some full-caps but then i see another gun that i just "have" to have and i put off getting the mags longer and longer.

Full capacity mags are well worth the investment. Without them, it's like putting four rounds in your six shot wheelgun.

You definitely should try to get some hi caps for your weapon. It doesn't just seem like there is a lot of wasted space...there is a lot of wasted space in your weapon! 7 round loss...and even more with +2 extended floorplates.

The good thing is that you don't have to reload your mags as often, but the bad thing is that you have almost used an entire box of ammo just filling two magazines! :D

The hard part is forking over $70-100 for a magazine, but take heart...you will get your investment back. Well..you might not if they repeal the 10 rd ban!

Full cap mags are ESSENTIAL. Crippled mags are either not durable (Sig, CZ - scored bodies or weak baseplates) or less reliable (HK, Promag - spring may bind) or impossible to load to even 10 rounds (Glock).

My experience with G17 10 round factory magazines was bad times two! One jammed so bad that I just pitched it, I couldn't get the follower unstuck without destroying the mag. The other is the only magazine that I've had multiple FTF with my G17, and it's in a junk drawer somewhere here. I've even had better luck with steel aftermarket magazines, though the only thing I'd recommend for the G17 is 17 round factory magazines.

Let's see. More rounds in the mag means a heavier gun. More weight means less recoil. And less recoil means more accuracy. Just what you need for target shooting.

I love helping folks spend money.

To any and all Glock owners:

If you have ten round magazines that you don't want, please send them to me. I have not had any bad ten round magazines for either my 19 or 20. I will even pay the shipping costs. If you have tossed them in junk-drawers, closets or range bags and aren't about to use them again, I want them. E-mail me for the shipping address.
