Hi-Cap Mags

I love my G19, but am frustrated by how hard it is to find pre-ban factory hi-caps, and by how expensive they tend to be ($75-$100).

I've been thinking of buying another 9mm, preferably one in which hi-caps are easier to find and cheaper. Any suggestions? It seems to me it's really easy to find cheap CZ-75 mags, and fairly easy to find cheap Beretta 92 mags.Any thoughts, or is there another gun I may have overlooked?

Oh, though I specified 9mm above, I wouldn't mind a hi-cap Para .45, but, with the exception of the mags you can get when you buy the gun, mags seem really expensive.

Hello. The CZ75 9mms are very, very nice semis and extra factory pre-ban 15 round magazines can be had for around $45 a pop from CZ-USA. Best. (I don't know how long this will last, but bet it's gone within a year as magazines are sold.)

Ruger P95. Standard capacity mags are in the $40-$50 range the last time I checked. It will accept P89 mags.

Two other suggestions would be Beretta 92s and Browning HPs. Factory hi-caps seems to be in the $45 range for these. SIG P226s used to be in the same category, but P226 magazine prices seem to have shot up <g> recently.

I don't know if my Ruger P89 mags fit the newer P95. Aftermarket mags from Cheaper Than Dirt are still available for less than $20 each (15, 20, 30 rounders). My 30 rounder isn't very reliable. Needs to get me some more 15's and 20's though soon! :D Anyone know, will the P89 mags fit and operate proper in the P95?

Go to a gun show to get your mags. You can usually get Full-Cap 9mm Glock mags between $30 and $40.

What gun show are you finding factory Glock magazines at for anything close to that price??? Are these new magazines? I'd buy a ton of them if I could get them for anything that resembled $30/ea!

Oops...I misread
They aren't factory but my experience has been that they work flawless.

Although I also prefer hi-caps over politically correct magazines, I personally wouldn't give up my G19 because of the hi-cap situation. It's a great pistol whether it contains 10 or 15 rounds. :)

Also, for some reason, in my area *all* factory pre-ban mags are about the same outrageous price. (Mr. Camp notes that CZ hi-caps are still available from the factory, so CZ mags would be an exception.) For instance, the local gunshop has factory Beretta 92 mags for $85 each because that's what someone was selling them for on the Internet. So the shop owner accepted that price as some sort of standard. Ugh!

One thing seems sure: factory pre-ban mags are only getting harder to find and more expensive. So, I guess I've reached the point where I'm learning to live with the 10-rounders, due to not being able to afford anything more.

Thanks for the advice.

I've tried a few gunshows, but Glock mags still tend to run $75+.

And Jimmy I have no intention of giving up my G19, even if I'm limited to 10 rounders. (I'm probably just subconsciously rationalizing the whole hi-cap mag thing as an excuse to get a new gun. ;)) It's just that one can't help but feel a bit cheated, KNOWING that you're missing 5 rounds.

Maybe I'll just get a single stack 9mm, a 1911, or a G30 and quit whining.

Hemlock--sorry I misunderstood your post regarding the G19. :o The hi-cap situation truly is frustrating. It doesn't help to know that the ban is nothing but a political charade.

If you go with a single-stack 9mm, I'd like to suggest the P225. I got one recently and it's a sweet-shooting pistol. Also, IMHO the Beretta 92 Type M is another world-class single-stack 9mm that'd be worth considering. HTH.

I can find factory beretta mags (not sure if they were new or slightly used) all day long at gun shows for 30-40 bucks. Much of it is military surpluss, I think. Anyway, that's about as cheap as it gets for factory hi-caps, and the beretta is a great gun.

I paid $21 each for Ruger 9mm hi-caps at the Orlando Gun Show.

Sig 226 high caps are also fairly inexpensive and easy to come by, and it is a great gun. I have never her of this manufacturer called Eagle, but 18 round hicaps are selling for $18 at CDNN for both Sig 226 and Beretta 92FS. If anyone has any experience with them, let us all know.

CDNN Also has a deal on Hi-power hicaps as well. They seem to be imported factory, but I have never confirmed this.

I generally won't mess with aftermarket hi-caps, unless they are mec-gar or USGI ar-15 mags, and especially if they are anything made by USA (the company, not the country).

Why are you going to cough up $500 for a good new gun where you are going to spend even more for magazines? Gun shows, gun stores, catalogs, I have seen full capacity mags for G19's at the places I just said, and more for fairly cheap, cheaper then you said, just keep on looking, you are sure to have some luck.

I personnaly can't justify the hi-cap prices.

I have several pre ban toys w/mags but won't put out the cash now.

I would suggest buying a small frame designed for 10rds or do a 10rd .45. That should fix most issues.

Just my 2 cents, I can't spend as much on mags as the gun.
