HG Stock finish

I am a machinist not a wood worker, so I have to ask. How does Weatherby put that beautiful high gloss finish on the Mark series? Is it possible for me to do the same at a home shop? Any kit available that will give me a similar result?

It's not too hard to replicate. It is a polyurethane finish. I refinished one years ago: stripped it with Jasco, sanded to 600 grit (taped off the checkering), sprayed it with Varathane, cured it at about 100 degrees for a month, then lightly sanded with 600 grit and buffed it to a high gloss. The owner was ecstatic.

If I were to do the same job today, I would use Brownells' Acra Seal Wood, a spray epoxy finish, available in either gloss or matte. It is much harder than polyurethane, but not quite as clear. 3-5 coats would give the depth of finish.
