Hey, wouldn't it be cool if the election was about RIGHT NOW?

Don't get me wrong - it is entirely entertaining to figure out the actual conduct of two Junior Officers three decades ago, but they really are BS issues that do little to inform us who would be a better president next year.

The fact is that Kerry has been a war protester, and Bush has been an alcoholic. I doubt either of those factoids are actually meaningful, and in a contest where both parties have some embarrassing history, the comparison is trite.

I'm a little more interested in:
What are they promising?
Can they deliver?
Will that be good for our citizens?

I kindly submit that some of our greatest presidents had checkered personal lives, and some of our worst were angels. It would be most edifying if some of the Kerry/Bush debate in the political forum was about...

...politics.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled, "My dad's bigger than your's" debate.

You bet...but we can't wait for the clock to run out.

I want November 2nd to get here just as much as anyone. But I believe that since we can't freeze things as they are and speed up time to we had better be vigilant. In political campaigning, 'he who laughs last laughs loudest'.

This CBS document scandal is just a preview of coming attractions as far as anti-gunner dirty politics is concerned. Not all of their crap will fly back in their face so spectacularly. Remember that Drunk Driving Rap that was thrown at Bush just before Election Day? The issue itself did not change anyone's vote but it certainly threw the Bush campaign off message.

In fact, if Al Gore had had more experienced voters in Florida (as opposed to a mob of people bribed and scared to the polls) he would have won the election. We cannot rely on the fact that Republicans tend to be better at reading ballots this time around because voting machines have been changed to the point that voting no longer requires even a modicum of experience. They are designed to allow otherwise disinterested citizens a say in how our country is run and what rights you and I are allowed to have. Go figure.

In short, I believe that things are going too well and that we need to get President Bush so far ahead in the polls that it doesn't matter how many dirty tricks the Democrats deploy and then we need to keep him ahead all the way to November 2nd. He must retain the initiative at all times.

I know you were not calling for complacency but I wanted to remind you as a Florida voter, to tell everyone that they need to mobilize people now. We all wish that the election could be held to day while we were ahead. Hell, I know that I wished that we could hold the 2004 election back in late September of 2001 wehen people had Bush's great leadership fresh in their mind. I knew even then that the Democrats and the news media were biding their time and sharpening their knives for the first moment it was safe to stab the President in the back. So yes, I wished the gun grabbers did not have all this time to work their evil. But wishing seldom gets us what we want.

The fact is that Kerry has been a war protester, and Bush has been an alcoholic.
And the latter found that he was a lesser man than he could be because of an enormous flaw, while the former revels in his iniquity.

That alone would be enough for any thinking person to use as a filter for their choice for President.

Wow. What were you guys reading?

I post that it would be nice to read some discourse on the election that is based on current platforms rather than just old skeletons, and all of you either misread the post entirely, or come out in favor or more of the same crap.

Incredible.

Handy,

That you fail to acknowledge the significance of Kerry's traitorous past is stunning. It is the light thru which ALL of his current words and deeds must be filtered.
This is more than just a case of a person with a checkered past. Bush has acknowledged his problems with alcohol and taken positive, life changing steps to correct this. Kerry remains adamant in his denial of selling out his fellow soldiers. He attempts to rewrite history regarding his collaboration with the North Vietnamese. He now wants respect for ill gotten medals
once flung over the White House fence. Kerry has proven himself time and again incapable of showing decisive leadership, of making sound, moral judgements, of supporting our military or the soldiers in it, of having any genuine, human interest in anybody or anything outside of the question of 'how can I use this to benefit me politically or financially?' WAKE UP.
Kerry doesn't talk about the issues cause he won't/can't take a stand. All he can do is criticize Bush because Kerry has no record of accomplishment in the Senate. Bush does nothing BUT talk about issues and what his second term will address. Perhaps you're not listening.

Perhaps you're not reading. I was saying it would be interesting to read some platform based issue stuff on this forum.

Understand? Got that? Wake up, yourself.

...politics.
What are they promising?

Kerry: I have no idea what Kerry is promising. More importantly, neither does he. If you know better than he does what he is promising, fire away. I'd love to hear it.

Bush: Best I can tell he has promised to kick ass and take names on death-cult psychotics that have been a growing problem since before I was born, so that suits me just fine. The other extraneous BS means nothing to me until that one single issue has been dealt a fatal blow.

Can they deliver? Last I heard, in 20 minutes or less, or your pizza is free.

Will that be good for our citizens?

Kerry wins, and we have a traitor at the helm. To me, that is a bad thing. YMMV

Bush wins, and civilization has a chance to survive. Some will have a greater part in this than others, but be certain that the "others" will jump on the bandwagon once the threat is finally dealt with. The funeral of Ronaldus Maximus was a classic example of that little quirk in human nature - the rat #@^* journalists who called him dummy in the 80s going on and on about how brilliantly he dealt with the Soviets being just one example.

Anything else?

Well, Kerry says Bush has done nothing right.

Kerry says he would have done everything differently.

Kerry is the obvious expert on what not to do, when not to do it and how not to do it. He is a little lacking in the what should actually be done

Bill

I read what you said...all of it. One of your salient points was that both of the candidates had problems with their past histories. You opined that these are BS issues and implied that Kerry's overtly traitorous conduct was somehow on par with one man's struggle with alcohol abuse. This is a fase comparison. Aside from the fact that Kerry has done NOTHING to address nor correct his past failings while Bush seems to have done both, the sheer enormity of Kerry's treachery far outweighs Bush's past shortcomings.
Other issues:
Bush will protect 2A rights. Kerry won't.
Bush will continue to push for tax cuts. Kerry will raise taxes.
Bush will continue to fight the WOT, unilaterally if necessary. Kerry will cut and run.
Bush will increase military spending, including pay and benefits. Kerry will gut the military.
Bush will continue to be suspicious of the UN and it's motives. Kerry will embrace the UN, kowtow to the French, Russians and Chinese.
Both Bush and Kerry will continue massive deficits, Kerry will spend the lion's share on redistribution of wealth toward the bottom.
Bush will likely lose Rumsfeld and Powell in the second term. With Kerry we well get the likes of Karl Levin, Joe Biden, Maxine Waters, Diane Fienstien, Charles Rangel, Al Gore, Wesley Clark, Hillery Clinton, etc. making policy for the county.
A Kerry victory will be seen by the international Islamofascist cabal as a victory, much like the change in govt in Spain.
Regardless of who is elected we will see attacks in this country using truck, car, bus bombers as well as coordinated attacks on schools, malls and churches.
